Airdate: Tulsa King

A free to air teaser episode of new Sly Stallone series.

10 has made a late amendement to its Sunday schedule by adding the first episode of Paramount+ series Tulsa King for Free to Air viewing.

Sylvester Stallone stars as a mob boss recently released from prison.

The series also stars Andrea Savage (I’m Sorry), Martin Starr (Silicon Valley), Jay Will (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Max Casella (The Tender Bar), Domenick Lombardozzi (The Irishman), Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire), A.C. Peterson (Superman & Lois) with Garrett Hedlund (The United States vs. Billie Holiday) and Dana Delany (Body of Proof).

It’s unlikely further episodes will screen on 10 given it is labelled a “special event.”

This pushes NCIS: Hawaii to a 9:30pm start with FBI at 10:30pm.

Creator and Academy Award nominee Taylor Sheridan serves as executive producer alongside Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award® winner Terence Winter (The Sopranos, The Wolf Of Wall Street), who also serves as showrunner and writer. Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, Tulsa King will premiere with two episodes on Monday, 14 November, exclusively on Paramount+.

Tulsa King follows New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Stallone) just after he is released from prison after 25 years and unceremoniously exiled by his boss to set up shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Realising that his mob family may not have his best interests in mind, Dwight slowly builds a “crew” from a group of unlikely characters, helping establish a new criminal empire in a place that to him might as well be another planet.

The series is executive produced by Sheridan, Winter, Stallone, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Allen Coulter and Braden Aftergood

  1. I am enjoying this so much as it is different to most of the rubbish we have come to see. Stallone makes a great mobster. I say it’s worth an airing on FTA.

  2. It does seem curious that 10 decided to release episode one of Tulsa King on free to air so early, maybe 10 are trying to attract more 7-day free trials of Paramount+; once more episodes of the show are made available that is, though for me the impression I get is that 10 are having their own trial run for a not too distant FTA release, perhaps towards the end of 2023. Sylvestor appears to be making a career move to TV productions now, so maybe the rigours of big budget action movies are a bit too much for him, or is it that Sly has seen the writing on the wall for Hollywood and is sourcing writers and producers that suit his creative style and the successful Taylor Sheridan fits the bill nicely with his masculine characters and themes.

  3. I actually like this from 10. It’s a naughty strategy, but I’m all for Paramount+ succeeding. I did hear on the Mediaweek podcast that Andrew Mercado couldn’t find it on Amazon Prime which is telling about the word getting out about this show and where it’s housed in Aus.
Anyway it’s a very good pilot and did enough for me to want to keep watching it. E2 and E3 just improved on what I’d seen too. Heads up that Garrett Hedlund and Dana Delaney don’t appear til Episode 3 also.

Again with 10, it’s just frustrating for such a late announcement giving them no time to promote it. Why not put it on next Sunday and give the week to promote it? What is the point of this last minute change? I’m assuming it’s to attract people to the streaming service… then why put it on with no notice? Baffling decision.
Anyone who does manage to catch it will be in for a treat.
