More rumours Grand Designs Australia is switching networks

As tipped, Grand Designs is likely headed to ABC with a new host after its run on Foxtel.

As previously tipped there are increasing rumours that Grand Designs Australia will move to ABC.

In October TV Tonight reported the series was scouting for new homes for Grand Designs Australia and possibly Restoration Australia

In the past ABC executives have privately expressed a desire to have all the Grand Designs formats under one roof -ABC has screened Grand Designs (UK), Grand Designs: NZ and Restoration Australia.

A Fremantle spokesperson told TV Tonight, “Fremantle Australia are hopeful Grand Designs Australia may continue at another home in the future. Given the long lead times between casting and production, we are looking at different development options.”

A casting notice has announced, “New builds, alterations and additions, heritage projects. From the weird to the wonderful, big budget or small, we want to join you on the journey as you build the home of your dreams. Are you building something amazing? We’d love to hear from you!”

Yesterday The Age reported Fremantle has been filming a new season for the past three or four months. It isn’t clear who the new host will be.

Host Peter Maddison felt “melancholy” about his final season with the show on Foxtel from January 25.

“I feel like the brand is tied to me, and leaving it is difficult,” he says. “But I’ve always understood it’s going to happen at some stage. It’s lasted a lot longer than I thought it would … It’s been an incredible journey.”
