ABC confirmed as new home for Grand Designs Australia

ABC has long harbored desires to be the home of the Grand Designs franchise.

As first tipped by TV Tonight Grand Designs Australia has a new home on the ABC.

Produced by Fremantle Australia, the series has wrapped over a decade on Foxtel with host Peter Maddison and winning the AACTA for Best Lifestyle Program.

But ABC has long desired the series to sit alongside its other Grand Designs franchises from the UK and NZ.

ABC Director of Entertainment and Specialist, Jennifer Collins says, “Grand Designs is beloved by our ABC audiences.  We are delighted to be working alongside the talented team at Fremantle Australia to showcase passionate Australian homeowners as they strive to create architectural wonders.”

Fremantle Australia, Head of Unscripted Josie Mason Campbell says, “Grand Designs Australia is an aspirational program that shows it doesn’t matter how big your dreams are, anything is possible, and this also applies to the quality of this production. We have an exceptional team of specialists working behind-the-scenes on this remarkable program and together with the ABC, we’ll continue to raise the bar each season.”

ABC is expected to confirm Grand Designs: Transformation and Restoration Australia, all three shows which it is currently casting.

More updates, including host, will be announced later in the year.

  1. Good. So can we assume that the move of GDA to the ABC, the ABC now has the broadcast rights to GDA S07 & above? Or will these episodes remain in the Foxtel stable?

  2. This is great. I have always enjoyed the Grand Designs franchise. Just wondering if they could announce 3 hosts, or at least 2, to show case Australian talent. Restoration Australia is a different show and deserves an historical expert.
