Axed in 2022

Here are the shows we farewelled in 2022...

Here are the shows we farewelled in the past 12 months -as always- either at their own hand or via the network.

The Aussie list is always short due to networks saying there is “no decision” on many titles.

Thus, if a show did not screen in 2022 and has not been confirmed for 2023, it is added to the list with a #.

10 also announced The Living Room as being “Rested” in 2023 so I have added a section for shows which we know are off air this year but not formally axed.

There were also some shows we farewelled such as Doc Martin, Killing Eve, Better Call Saul, This is Us, Arthur etc. but which announced their conclusion in previous years. They finally bowed out in 2022…

And then there is Neighbours, axed and renewed in the same year!

  1. I’ll miss Doc Martin and Mad As Hell. The ABC will have a gap in their Wednesday evening schedule that’ll need filling. Hopefully It’s not the last of Living Room and Spicks & Specks. Magda was embarrassing hosting The Weakest Link. Her jokes were not funny. What’s the status of Frankly?

  2. Devastated that Westworld and The Good Fight have come to an end. Two of my all time favourite shows. All good things must come to an end I guess …. David not wanting to interrupt your leave, but yet to watch the final season of The Good Fight and I’ve tried SBS, Foxtel etc and can’t seem to confirm who has the rights for the final season here in Aus? Any tips welcomed!

  3. And so I say “ There are a hellava lot more shows I consider should have been, axed, binned, burned and not even thought of to begin with” that are too numerous to mention off the top of me head. 😝🤮

  4. I know Ninja Warrior was rested for this year, but hopefully they will find a new channel in the following year. If 10 picks up the Ninja Warrior, they will refresh the hosts, new format and new contestants. We’ve had enough of same contestants from previous seasons like Olivia Vivian.

  5. Disappointing news for fans of Prime Videos ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’ series is that will end with season 4. Hopefully, other similar action shows will take its place.

  6. Quite a list of cancellations but it is what it is, especially for US drama production in these difficult times, certainly Netflix have become increasingly ready to dump a formerly popular show, which maybe earlier could have been given at least a 3 season run, but I suppose subscribers should still feel positive that Netflix’s acquisition and production agenda shows no sign of slowing down. It’s noteworthy that showrunners and producers will always be eternal optimists, usually at the expense of their fans, the penchant for producers to write open endings for their shows probably needs a review by most studios (especially by Netflix if their economic situation matters), but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that subject, it’s not the American way.

  7. Sad about Space Force, Bull and The Good Fight. They were good shows. Also sad that it’s the final season of A Million Little Things. I liked that show. And I thought Channel 9 axed Australian Ninja Warrior and Celebrity Apprentice.

  8. You might think some of the shows listed could easily continue and still have some potential lifespan. Beat The Chasers, Million Dollar Listing New York, Mock The Week etc. I have a speculation that The Living Room is axed and not rested. I think they didn’t want to upset the cast or crew. I think that could be the case with some of the other ‘rested’ shows.

  9. His Dark Materials is not surprising. There were only three books in the original series and they’ve been doing one book per season. Good read those ones.

    1. Endeavour and The Good Fight are the only ones I will miss, but they both ran their course and got a final season. RFDS was renewed for S2 with global distribution rights secured. Seven announced it for 2023. They then said scripts were written and filming would start later in 2023, implying a 2024 airdate. That information is still posted on-line and hasn’t been corrected. It was the only Australian show I was looking forward too, so I hope Seven haven’t quietly killed it off. His Dark Materials and My Brilliant Friend were not cancelled or axed, they were created as 3 and 4 chapters respectively based on the books, they are finished or finishing. Magnum PI which NBC resurrected as a mid-season replacement for 2 seasons (one full production season). The first season starts on 19th of Feb in the US. S6 is the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, but HULU are then going to do The Testaments, Attwood’s sequel which is set further in the future and ends the story.

  10. Minx got axed?! How did I miss that! I thought a second season had been confirmed (as TVT reported in May). Also shocked to ready Aussie Ninja Warrior is being rested. I thought that was now a staple for 9.

  11. That is a lot of TV shows!

I used to love “This is Us”, but it seem to disappear from regular screening and then you would see it pop up in unusual days and times, so it lost me. I haven’t ventured onto 10 Catch Up (or whatever it is called these days), but if it is anything like 7’s catch up, it is not worth the effort. Really, do these TV channels actually do any viewer testing to see how intuitive or easy it is to navigate these streaming services – I guess not. 9 is not much better than 7.
