Returning: Bloodlands

James Nesbitt returns to SBS as DCI Tom Brannick, where crime cases are inextricably linked to his own past.

Season 2 of Northern Ireland drama Bloodlands, starring James Nesbitt will premiere next week on SBS.

This is a 6 part series which premiered internationally in September.

When a wealthy accountant is gunned down, DCI Tom Brannick (James Nesbitt) and his policing partner Niamh McGovern (Charlene McKenna) set to work untangling a murder conspiracy – one they soon realise is linked to missing gold, worth millions. Gold that Tom has seen before…

As Goliath, Tom intercepted a shipment of rifles intended for the IRA in 1998, and on receipt found eight bars of gold hidden alongside them. He kept the bounty for himself, using the threatening reputation of his alter ego to anonymously enlist a terrified Colin Foyle as his accountant, to keep it safe. When presented with Colin’s body, Tom realises he needs to find his gold before anyone – let alone his fellow officers – can get there first.

Episode One:
DCI Tom Brannick and his partner DS Niamh McGovern, are called to the scene of a shooting on the shores of Strangford Lough. Tom recognises the victim as an accountant from his troubled past, and the subsequent investigation of the dead man’s widow, Olivia Foyle, leads Tom into a web of intrigue that is inextricably bound to his previous misdeeds.

Wednesday, 1 February at 9.30pm on SBS.

  1. How the heck did I miss this one??….Thank goodness Season 1 is still on SBS On Demand and just 4 hours of catching up…I can see a binge coming on….Thank you DK.

    1. It was on SBS two years ago, during a lockdown. I didn’t expect there to be a sequel as the plot was very convoluted and they killed off all the loose ends. It rated very well in Northern Ireland.

  2. Spoiler alert. Made by Hat Trick Mercurio Ltd. so viewers should expect a 3rd series of 6 eps to wind things up. After 16hrs of screentime some couch potatoes would be growing roots.
HTM also make DI Ray which will start filming series 2 this year.
