Returning: Call the Midwife

Season 12 is fast-tracked to BBC First.

Season 12 of Call the Midwife is fast-tracked to BBC First this week.

This season stars Jenny Agutter, Leonie Elliot & Helen George plus Judy Parfitt, Laura Main, Linda Bassett, Megan Cusack, Cliff Parisi, Zephryn Taitte, Daniel Laurie, Annabelle Apsion, Olly Rix, Stephen McGann and Georgie Glen.

The nuns and nurses from Nonnatus House return for more stories of midwifery and family life set in 1960s East London.

It’s 1968 and Enoch Powell’s infamous “Rivers of Blood” speech creates serious tension in Poplar, especially when a group of dockers march in support of Powell. The midwives welcome a new nun, Sister Veronica, who’s an instant hit with everyone – except Nurse Crane. Meanwhile, Trixie’s relationship with Matthew goes from strength to strength, while Nurse Crane helps Nancy with her financial woes. Sister Julienne enjoys helping out the district, Shelagh and Dr Turner split their time between the busy maternity home and their lively young family and Reggie continues to bring joy into Violet and Fred’s lives.

10am Mondays from January 2, repeated at 7.30pm on BBC First.

  1. Another great show I’ve watched from the start, but sad two regulars have left. Remember ‘68 well being a teenager protesting in Sydney about the Vietnam war and Powell’s statement re: “the black man having the whip over the white man” was horrifying to hear. My Foxtel app has “Death in Paradise” new S12 to air on Sat 7/1 at 9.00am which is between repeats of S1. I’m thinking it’s a doof doof though because they have “Seven News at 4” on at 6.00pm. These doof doofs have been happening since August 2022 so I guess the “webmaster?” must be napping on the job. How embarrassing for Foxtel…. quality control doesn’t exist.

      1. Thanks David for clearing that up, never miss that show either, but the “Seven News at 4” airing at 6.00 pm (1 hour of mostly obscure news) is definitely a doof doof because they have “Seven News at 4” airing at 4.00 pm (half hour of mostly useless information)too. I’m it putting down to an “apprentice” error. 😂

  2. Thank you for this news. When will it be screened on our channel 2? Ive only become a fan of this show the last few months, although Id been aware of it for a while. My first career from school was an attempt at nursing. In fact the nurse on the right reminds me of me. My uniform was very similar/identical, but minus the metal belt and the white collar. I wasnt and not a nun, but a nursing student, that lasted two and a half years. Many years ago. Im quite enjoying the repeats of past seasons on 72.
