10 returning The Masked Singer for 2023

Singing guessing show will be back on 10 for its fifth season this year.

EXCLUSIVE:

The Masked Singer is returning to 10 for its fifth season later this year.

The series was not on 10’s Upfront list although programmer Dan Monaghan recently said he was hopeful it would return.

But Chrissie Swan, who made her debut as one of the guessing panel last year, tells TV Tonight she has a busy slate.

“I’ve got a national radio show, I’ve got Would I Lie to You? I’ve got two TV shows. I reckon that’ll do me for a bit.”

Asked if Masked Singer was returning, she confirmed, “Yes. Yes, I believe so.”

Swan looks forward to more correct guesses this season.

“I just loved it. I got three in a row. I think I got five all up. I think I’m going to have to ease off a bit on the old Sherlock Holmes business. Give it a bit more fantasy!”

10 is yet to confirm its guessing panel line-up which last featured Dave Hughes, Abbie Chatfield and Mel B.

10 was contacted for comment.

  1. ‘brisbane streamer’; yes, I mean ‘older, with more experience’. But also, someone with more ‘clout’ in the industry. The younger demo ie 16 to 45, shouldnt be seen as the be all and end of the rating/advertising demographic. Maybe a former actor from Home and Away, Neighbours, or past shows from 10, or abc. Or even another Aussie singer. Or someone from a talk show/news. I think people of all ages would watch. Im not a fan of Dave Hughes, but at least he’s a radio man.

  2. Love Masked Singer but had to give up on watching it last season. Oshers constant yelling drove me nuts and the stupid guesses were just too silly. I think the UK version is by far the best. Not too over the top and the acts are great !

  3. Let’s face it…its the only thing that rated decently for them after Masterchef last year. Probably time for them to read the room and ditch Hughesy.

    1. By more standing in entertainment, do you mean older with more experience? She has the best reach & popularity to my generation compared to the other three panellists and since networks (particularly 10) chase the younger demos, it was a smart decision by them to have her on the panel.

  4. I also hope that this show returns. Wishful thinking – I am hoping for an all Aussie panel (even if it’s someone not well-known). I am not a fan of Abbie but I think she did well on her debut. Hughesy is just being Hughesy – at least there’s something for us to rant about the next morning at the water cooler:)

    1. Lisa tested for it earlier. Every time the music was about to start she’d yell her guess non-stop, rush the stage and then glue the mask to the singer’s head – leaving it impossible for anyone to properly determine whether her guess was right or not. Fearing delays (or worse), Ten chose to go in a different direction. The audition tape remains on track for Logies consideration.
