A merging of brands signals the end for several titles in the USA this week.

A number of US shows were cancelled this week in the USA.

Paramount Global announced that Showtime would merge with Paramount+, which has signalled the end of titles including American Gigolo, Let the Right One In and Dexter: New Blood, all after just a single season.

However there are reports of a possible prequel under consideration around Dexter Morgan.

Meanwhile Pennyworth, which starred Jack Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth and future Batman butler, has been cancelled by HBO after three seasons.

American Gigolo screened on Stan, Pennyworth on Foxtel and Let the Right One In and Dexter: New Blood on Paramount+.

  2. I’m clearly in the minority it seems, but I thought New Blood was excellent. It totally fixed that horrific original ending. I’m sad to see no continuation tbh.

    1. I don’t think you’re in a minority at all, it’s just a vocal majority who hated the ending of New Blood. I was definitely a bit letdown, but I thought the series overall was brilliant.

      Dexter season 8 and the series finale though, yeesh. Yeah, that was just bad.

Dexter New Blood is as the title suggests about Dexter’s son, and if you are familiar with US showrunners and producers. there would be a continuation of the Franchise with Jack Alcott, though Michael C. Hall would probably had a role as well. Dexter was probably best left in its box after the original series ended. Pennyworth on the other hand could have continued but maybe its best it now concludes with James Gunn beginning a new DCU franchise renewal soon with Batman and a younger Superman, among others, coming to the big screen in coming years.

  4. Surprised to see Dexter New Blood has been “officially” cancelled, I assumed the season was just a one and done anyway?

    The vast majority of the series was great. The ending was a bit of a letdown with Batista not even getting to see Dexter – that was a weird direction there.

  6. Dexter New Blood was just as big a letdown as the last episode. Where did they think it was going after he fell of the twig. His son following in his footsteps bit boring there. A prequel I doubt without Hall. Pennyworth was a different take on Batman, Paloma Faith played another good character in that too. You get invested in these shows and they pull the plug or merge with little regard for the viewers in my opinion because these companies have to constantly evolve and get bigger, make even more money to produce these shows and eventually change viewers even more for watching.
