Paramount+ exec comments on future of Dexter franchise

"I am actively working on that," says Paramount's David Nevins.

After the recent revival of Dexter as Dexter: New Blood, is the franchise done and dusted?

David Nevins, Chief Content Officer of Scripted Originals for Paramount+ and Chairman and CEO of Showtime Networks recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter where he was asked, “What are some of the other Paramount franchises and brands that you can see developing for Showtime or Paramount+?”

“I am not going to say. There are a lot of things that I am working on. I don’t want to mention things until they are ready. There are a lot of things. What is the future the Dexter franchise? I am actively working on that,” he replied.

Showrunner Clyde Phillips is previously on record as saying he is up for a new take with son Harrison Morgan (Jack Alcott).

“It’s all in Showtime’s hands. If they were to call me and say, ‘We want to do Harrison. We want you to figure it out,'” he once said.

“I’m pretty busy, but I would drop everything I’m doing and jump right into it. I would love to do it, but it’s really up to Showtime.”

  1. Dexter:New Blood kind of gave it away that Jack Alcott (Dexter’s son Harrison) is going to keep the Dexter bloodline going, with maybe dad having an occasional role to subliminally mentor Harrison’s serial killer career. I’m not sure how successful this type of spin-off would be with a younger star but the Dexter:New Blood series did confirm that the franchise still has some life left in it even though mass murder is the shows main attraction.
