Dexter: Original Sin prequel casts lead actors

Patrick Gibson, Christian Slater, and Molly Brown to star in prequel set 15 years before the events of Dexter.

Seems Hollywood just can’t kill off Dexter with a prequel series Dexter: Original Sin having found its three lead cast.

Patrick Gibson, Christian Slater, and Molly Brown are all set to star in the show, for Paramount+.

Gibson (Shadow and Bone, The OA) will play Dexter Morgan (originally Michael C. Hall), while Christan Slater (Mr Robot, True Romance, Interview with the Vampire, Heathers) will play Harry Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive father (originally James Remar).

Brown (Billions, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Evil) will play sister Debra Morgan (originally Jennifer Carpenter).

The 10-episode prequel is set in 1991, 15 years before the events of Dexter.

Variety reports the official logline states that the new show “follows Dexter (Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcements’ radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

Clyde Phillips, the original showrunner and executive producer on Dexter, returns.

The last outing, 2022’s sequel Dexter: New Blood, ran for one season with Michael C. Hall and Jack Alcott.

  1. What a dumb cash grab idea-early Dexter’s development was covered in the original series including his 1st kill of the ‘Angel of Death’ nurse trying to bag Harry in hospital-did they learn nothing from the fiasco of the recent New England set series?

    1. Yes, I think the major studios will be brought back to reality soon, hopefully. There are plenty of good writers, enough of the creative politics.

  2. I was a huge fan of the original series and it should have been left alone when it finished. Dexter: New Blood was in my opinion terrible. Now this prequel. What to do? Watch and risk further disappointment or forget I even know about it?
