Fans camp outside Nine for YouTube stars

Updated: Thousands of mostly-male fans swarmed outside North Sydney building for a glimpse of Logan Paul and KSI.

The Today show was inundated this morning with thousands of fans awaiting YouTube duo Logan Paul and KSI.

Fans camped out overnight in North Sydney for a glimpe of the pair, visiting Australia to promote a new line of energy and sports drinks.

“Aussie Aussie Aussie” the duo chanted from a balcony to the masses below, via a megaphone.

Karl Stefanovic did an early morning walk outside the Nine building ahead to the mostly-male crowd.

Updated: Daily Telegraph reports one teenager was hospitalise and is reported to be in a serious condition after being injured at the event from a suspected fall. A security guard was thrown to the floor after getting caught behind the cement barricade separating him and fans and later treated by paramedics.

The event spiralled out of control after the internet stars made their way to the balcony and spoke to the crowd of thousands while throwing energy drinks into the sea of fans. The appearance was cancelled prematurely as police ushered crowds away from the street, causing chaos among cars.

One report also said Karl Stefanovic was egged.

“We want to thank NSW Police for making sure everyone arrived and left the scene safely, and to the Nine security team for ensuring the crowd knew what was happening throughout the morning,” Director of Morning Television at Nine Steve Burling said.

“Many fans camped out overnight – they were passionate, excited and we experienced no issues with crowd behaviour.”

  1. Yes; will be showing my age here, as I also had scant knowledge of these two ‘dudes’ until this morning.
I am not sure what to make of it all to be honest.

It reminded me of when a young Justin Bieber caused all sorts of breakfast TV mania a decade or so ago (and I had not heard of him either until then).

It is interesting that the crowd gathered to see these two dudes this morning were mainly young males; a demographic I did not associate so much with this sort of mania.
I know know I was very wrong.
And, on the whole the crowd was not a threatening one full of drunken violence, just a group of passionate young blokes who were enjoying the moment.
As a previous commneter said, mainstream TV would dearly love to have such a demographic regularly tuning in.

    1. Oh the rivalry….Seven News in Brisbane had this item on and to put the knife into Nine they had Ray Hadley (why only they know) :saying “it’s for a bl…dy bottle of energy drink! Now has the world gone completely mad, or I’ve just gone mad.” 😂 He said it not me so everyone can make of that comment what they will. “Dude” is what this KSI referenced himself as by the way on a TV show.

  2. Like most people, I had no idea who they were but gee I enjoyed all those kids really enjoying themselves and not causing any trouble, except for the egg thrown. It must’ve been hard waiting all those long hours. How nice to see kids actually having fun instead of seeing constant reports of them running riot in the streets. Karl was good too, not over the top like he tends to do. I think he was trying so hard to be cooool !lol

  3. I honestly can’t see what all the fuss is about and I’ve no doubt I will get some backlash but this KSI “dude” was on Celebrity Gogglebox UK version on the Lifestyle channel on Foxtel in December with some “dude” called S-X and I could not believe how unintelligent both of them were when commenting on what they were watching (I don’t even think it registered what exactly they were watching with either of them). The appearance money must have been good though. If this is a roll model for today then kids are in trouble.

    1. I walked pass the mania this morning going to work. All I can say is these two in Logan Paul and KSI (and possibly the people who follow them ) may be “unintelligent” to you, but you could sense the passion and the joy from the fans who lined up to see them. From Channel 9 this was a master stroke getting a different demographic who possibly would not watch the show.

      1. More like the promoters knowing how to pull the strings of these “dudes” to rope the “mania” in and Nine knowing how to cash in on the “mania” it produced with these “dudes”.

  4. That looks like a boon for Nine and The Today Show. It’s reminiscent of the Channel V Australia live performances where the fans would go to see the stars in the streets and they’d perform a couple of songs with an interview.

It’s different from the style of ABC News Breakfast. But it’s a good point of difference. You probably wouldn’t see something like that on ABC News Breakfast.

    1. No you would not.

This is my own ignorance of course but I have no idea who these two were or why they are so famous but best of luck to them and their fans.
