Idol brings back ‘Touchdown’

A famous catchphrase makes a return to the Idol stage -but what about its creator?

There’s a ‘Touchdown’, but no word of Mark Holden on Australian Idol as yet (there’s a rumour both he and Dicko will appear).

Next week the show moves from Top 24 to Top 12.

The legendary “touchdown” returns to the Idol stage for the first time in over a decade. Epic performances earning a touchdown from a judge will immediately place the performer in the Top 12.

The best performers will sing for their lives in front of the biggest live audience Idol has ever seen as the competition inches closer to Australia choosing their next Idol.

“This is when the competition really starts,” says judge Harry Connick Jr. Fellow judge Kyle Sandilands has labelled the upcoming performances “sensational”.

The Top 12 will feature in the live performance round of the competition, with Australian audiences voting each week to decide who will be crowned the next Australian Idol. The winner will receive a recording contract with industry giant Sony Music and $100,000 in prize money.

7pm Sunday, 7:30pm Monday & Tuesday on Seven.

  1. So glad I miss the touchdown. Hopefully they’ll give it to the right performances. Pretty sure they will so much talent this year. But my initial pick is still in there! But I reckon I know who will make even the top 5 , I’ve always picked the winner or 2nd in 95% of idol, X factors here and overseas.
