Mark Holden reacts to Touchdown return on Idol

"I thought they would have reached out to me," says Mr. Touchdown Mark Holden.

Mark Holden has commented on the return of his Touchdown catchphrase on Australian Idol.

“My family and I are a little bit hurt by it, to be honest. I thought they would have reached out to me,” he told the Herald Sun.

“These people are my friends; well, some of them. It’s hurtful they haven’t bothered to reach out.”

The arts lawyer also reached out to the show’s producers but they “didn’t even bother to reply,” he maintains.

Last night Melbourne DJ, Maya Weiss (pictured) scored a series Touchdown resulting in a fast pass to the Top 12. Fifteen-year-old student Phoebe Stewart followed with another.

The final four spots in the Top 12 will be filled as eight contestants battle it out tonight on Seven.

  1. He has no reason to complain. Real Idol fans will know that Paula Abdul actually coined the term in the first season way before Mark Holden co-opted it. It may have become more of his thing later but it’s not a wholly original idea.

  2. If I was Mark I’d be furious. I thought they had talked to him about it and that’s why they used it. I know Mark didn’t create the phrase but was famous for it. So. Not a laughing matter at all.

  3. Really isn’t good social media strategy when you search to see if you can find a noteable contestants performance (Maya) and all that comes up is her on The Voice a decade ago.

  4. Mark Holden has every reason to be upset. The Touchdown was not part of Idol anywhere else in the world and only performed by Mark. Not Dicko. Not Marcia. Not Kyle.
