Married at First Sight tops first day of 2023 survey

Sunday was a night of reality blindsides and young talent, but there was no holding back a clear Nine win.

The 2023 ratings year is off and running, with the first night of 40 weeks of survey in the bag as a win for Nine.

Married at First Sight was the #1 show of the night at 933,000 metro viewers.

That was well ahead of Death in Paradise (588,000), then a wild Australian Survivor (498,000) episode -both from 7:30pm- and the final auditions of Australian Idol (453,000).

Later 60 Minutes led with 524,000 then Vera (491,000), ABBA vs Queen (210,000), NCIS: Hawaii (163,000) and Dan Snow’s Greatest Discoveries (118,000).

Nine network easily won Sunday with 31.9% then Seven 22.2%, ABC 20.8%, 10 16.6% and SBS 8.4%.

Nine News drew 744,000 with a late edition at 297,000.

Seven News won at 785,000 but Maternal was just 93,000.

ABC News was 609,000 for ABC with Antiques Roadshow at 195,000.

The Sunday Project drew 253,000 / 167,000 for 10 then 10 News First at 182,000 / 150,000.

On SBS it was Ancient Egypt by Train (168,000), SBS World News (134,000 / 115,000) and Expedition Bermuda Triangle (86,000).

Bluey begins on top of ABC Kids at 112,000.

OzTAM Overnights: Sunday 12 February 2023.

  1. I avoid MAFS like the plague, but I guess I’m in the minority, people seem to love all the scripted drama and endless soap opera. Maybe it’s the appeal of watching wannabe instagram models and supposedly attractive looking blokes making fools of themselves for their 5 seconds of fame?
Australian Survivor was fantastic last night, a brilliant episode, it deserved a far bigger audience!
The ABC would be happy about the ratings for Death in Paradise at 7.30, a reliable performer for them and the BBC too obviously.

    1. I’m with you on MAFS, guess I’m in the minority too because all the socials add to the hype for them including the supposed news on Daily Mail with the paparazzi pictures (that are basically spying on them wherever they go and I wouldn’t be surprised they enjoy it), all this adds up to as many likes on their profiles which is I suspect is why they want to be wannabes on a TV show in the first place because there is not one genuine person among them in my opinion. It’s all smoke and mirrors with the lot of them I reckon.

  2. What an odd combination of popular genres was the SBS ‘Ancient Egypt By Train’-like someone took a hatful of ideas and pulled 2 out for a program to make! What’s next-‘Worlds Fastest Stonehenge’?

  3. Gave the whole lot a big miss, we went back to the 80s and watched Little Shop of Horrors with the worst, most cruel, addicted dentist (Steve Martin) ever to appear on a show and the worst pain addicted patient (Bill Murray). It was a delight from all the rivalry on a Sunday night.

    1. Totally unacceptable when they have given us one week of a new drama (Maternal) which I thought was good enough to come back to, only to find they have shuffled it later and then slotted in this music fluff (no disrespect to the two bands).

Why couldn’t they give Maternal a decent chance? After suffering a teen in the house binge watching Grey’s Anatomy, here was a show that is much better (so far). Only problem with Maternal is its title. Probably a turn off for some people without even checking what it is about.

  4. Hey David

Forgive me for forgetting and possibly misunderstanding, but I thought with the new ratings year we were going to see streaming numbers as well? Or are they being reported differently?

    Thanks
    James

  5. So nothing new to report in other words. More MAFS domination. Incredible results, especially on 9Now. I think I read somewhere at least an extra 500,000 viewers are watching on 9now.

Idol is the flop of the year so far. Fourth in timeslot is unacceptable no matter how Seven choose to spin it. At least ABBA did better than Maternal though.
