Belinda Russell departs Weekend Today

Changes are afoot at Weekend Today with Belinda Russell (pictured, left) departing the show.

On Instagram she wrote, “Hello friends. A little career update for you. My time on Weekend Today has come to an end. Thanks to those who tuned in. I hope I brought some sunshine and joy to your weekends. I have loved the last year and am looking forward to future opportunities at Nine. Good luck to the team for 2023 and beyond!”

But it isn’t clear if the decision was all her own.

A Nine Network spokesperson told news.com.au: “Belinda is a valued member of the 9News team which will enable her to work across all of our news brands. We will be making further announcements soon.”

Russell joined Nine in 2007 as a reporter for A Current Affair.

  1. I guess im the odd one out here. I am not a fan at all..she doesnt know her topics and asks some very ordinary questions…good call by nine. Just have david cambell do it..hes great.

  2. Over the past few years, they’ve chopped and changed presenters with people coming in and exiting to other places. Chopping and changing presenters doesn’t work, otherwise your ratings will suffer.

  3. If it’s Clint and Jane then sorry I’m not interested watching. Belinda on both Weekend Today and Today Extra is a wonderful chatty person that has great chemistry with David Campbell and all the other hosts she works with. Unfortunately Nine have it wrong here and Belinda is the wrong one leaving!

  5. Another stuff-up from the idiotic team that brought Karl back. Belinda was the only reason for watching on the weekend. Hopefully Nine has other plans for her that will let her spread her wings.

This program is just a joke now, how many talent changes have their been since Cameron and Leila left, which seems like an eternity ago now, especially downhill since Bec Maddern departed (they’d made in-roads). Weekend Sunrise just absolutely crushing (more or less), as it pretty much always had back to Reason/Lisa and AOK’s earliest days. Monique Wright is key, she’s a superstar and Nat watch out!
