Neighbours restarts production on April 17

Cameras will roll once more at Nunawading Studios, a day after a fan event in Melbourne.

It’s official. The covers are coming off and the props are coming out of storage…

Cameras will roll on much-loved soap Neighbours once more from April 17 at Nunawading Studios in Melbourne.

The announcement was shared by the cast during the final show of Neighbours: The Celebration Tour at the London Palladium overnight, Australian time.

On stage for the news were Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburne, Stefan Dennis, Ryan Moloney, Annie Jones, and April Rose Pengilly. All six will be returning for the new chapter joined by Rebekah Elmaloglou (Terese Willis), Georgie Stone (Mackenzie Hargreaves) and Tim Kano (Leo Tanaka).

Ian Smith (Harold Bishop), April Rose Pengilly (Chloe Brennan) and Melissa Bell (Lucy Robinson), will all return as guest stars.

April 17 is the following day after the Melbourne presentation of Neighbours: The Celebration Tour at Hamer Hall.

Neighbours Executive Producer Jason Herbison, said in a statement, “It feels very real now. It’s a hive of activity at the studio. We’re busy writing the next chapter of Neighbours, bringing to life again the show’s much-loved characters as well as new residents. It’s exciting to see the sets being prepped, ready to start filming on April 17 which will be a huge day for everyone involved”.

The new chapter Neighbours will launch in Spring on 10, and follow a week later on Prime Video in Australia, produced by Fremantle.

The series will also premiere on Prime Video in Canada, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand and for free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and USA.

  1. Does Fremantle have the street again? I was there two weeks ago and most of the houses were in the midst of ‘The Block’ style renovations including the whole front yard stripped away on No 22 (Terese’s house), No 28 (Kennedy house) was partially gutted including front windows removed. Looked like work was also being done to the corner house (No 20?) and the other houses looked empty. Made me wonder whether the owner’s refused to re-sign with the show, or did Fremantle buy them all out? Regardless, ‘Ramsay Street’ was looking very different from that last episode.

  2. At the time it was axed, I watched Neighbours religiously, was gutted at its cancellation and even suffered withdrawal symptoms for a few weeks after it ended. Now, truthfully, I don’t know how I ever fitted in the time to watch it.

Hopefully, its revival will be a success and I’ll find space to reconnect with it.

  3. It feels weird that Neighbours is coming back after the final show and reunion of all the cast. I hope 10 bring it back at 6:30 pm and finish on time this year so viewers can flick over to Home and Away on time, otherwise viewers get annoyed and miss out on the end of Neighbours or the start of Home and Away. It’s a tough one because people generally have dinner at 6:30 pm so Neighbours could lose out, maybe Neighbours for an hour at 7:30 pm once a week and have a juicier M rated storyline.

  4. Shortland Street at 6pm
    Neighbours at 6.30pm
A new or revived Game Show at 7pm.

The Project is done. It missed the boat to attract alienated viewers back with its recasting this year. There’s no coming back.

  5. Such fantastic news, I’m really looking forward to the new season later this year.
    A few questions remain…
No mention if they still have access to the actual street.
Also, I wonder where channel 10 will schedule the show, I’m picking 6.30pm – with the networks prime time viewing getting a head start at 7pm.
I would also push The Project back to 6pm for only half an hour.
    Thoughts?
