  1. I can’t see it working. The issues 10 will have with a 9 or 9.30pm news will be: 1) people generally don’t turn to 10 for news, even on a big news day. 2) Variable start times with reality show finishes (as we already see with the latest on 7 and Nine late news), 3) will people really switch over from what they’re already watching on other channels?

    1. All of these issues are fair and valid points. Ten isn’t a major news destination, the reality shows don’t end at consistent times, and viewers wouldn’t necessarily switch to Ten from other programs. That being said, a 9:30pm news could help make Ten a stronger news destination, potentially influence better editing so that the reality shows on Ten end at more consistent times (I doubt Seven and Nine would be influenced to make their reality shows end on time), and offer an alternative to those who don’t want to watch shows on the other channels.

  2. Great to see Ten offering election coverage. It helps to show that they still take news coverage seriously and aren’t just an afterthought, which, based on their low ratings, many seem to regard them as being.

  3. Ten should do late news nightly at 9:30 – it would rate better than anything they have on. They could even use 5pm presenter now that they are off the hook for WA broadcast, or Sarah Harris a couple hours after The Project.

The economies of scale would make it cheap if the 5pm team produce that together.

    1. I agree than Ten should have late news every night, and 9:30pm would be a good time for it. I would drop the low rating 6pm bulletin, move The Project into the 6pm slot, and start primetime at 7pm to try and ensure that a 9:30pm bulletin actually starts at 9:30pm 95% of the time, even if the nightly reality shows run long. As for who should present such a bulletin, any one of their current evening presenters could do it as all bulletins (including the all important Perth bulletin…its usually the one that is the most competitive) would end by 9pm on the east coast, freeing up the Sydney studios in time.

        1. It didn’t work, but they don’t really have anything else to put in that timeslot right now. Once Neighbours returns, they could put it there. But that still leaves the 6:30pm half hour vacant. Being a one hour program, The Project fills both timeslots. That being said, you could have Neighbours at 6pm and shrink The Project down to 30 minutes at 6:30pm. I don’t see Ten trying another game show at 6pm since several of those didn’t work.

      1. You’re right – for it to work it would need to be a consistent 9:30 start so that everyone knows if they ever want news at 9:30 (whether they’re a news junkie or miss 6pm Nine/Seven) it’s on 10.
