Returning: Bluey

Hit ABC series is back with new episodes, now set to screen on Sunday mornings. Your sneak peek is here.

New episodes of Bluey Series 3 resume on ABC Kids in April, now set to screen weekly on Sunday mornings.

Nine new episodes will air weekly from Sunday 9th April.

“The move to Sundays allows families to relax and watch their favourite show together without the rush of work or school / daycare routines,” ABC said in a statement.

“During these exciting new episodes, Bluey, the loveable and inexhaustible little Blue Heeler dog, Mum Chilli, Dad Bandit, little sister Bingo and their friends embark on more endearing and elaborate games and adventures that will delight young and old. Bluey takes the everyday events of family life, like making a cubby house and a trip to the beach, and turns them into unique gameplay, creating idiosyncratic adventures out of everyday moments.

“Plus, we welcome Adam Hills, Neil Finn, Mick Fanning, Carrie Bickmore and Kate Miller-Heidke to the Bluey family as they lend their voices to new characters.”

ABC previously aired 11 Bluey episodes of S3 in 2022.

This true-blue Australian series is created by creator/showrunner Joe Brumm, Emmy® awarding-winning executive producers Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson, producer Sam Moor and supervising director Richard Jeffery. The series is executive produced by Libbie Doherty, ABC Head of Children’s Production, and Henrietta Hurford-Jones, Director of Children’s Content for BBC Studios. Bluey series 3 is a Ludo Studio production for ABC Kids. Principal production investment from BBC Studios, in association with the ABC and Screen Australia. 1. About time. The last S3 episode broadcast by the ABC was episode 37 “The Decider” & that was on June 23rd 2022 !!!

My grandchildren *Love* Bluey and are frequently watching episodes over & over again (we don’t mind at all).

Even so, the ABC is still *Not* going to broadcast all 52 episodes of S3.

I have to say I really don’t know what’s going on with Bluey these days. I would have thought that both the ABC & the BBC would have wanted Ludo Studios to pump out new episode after new episode. I know it takes a while but the last S3 episode broadcast was almost a year ago and before that Ludo Studios managed to produce 141 episodes in 3.5 years (2018 to mid-2022).

Oh well, at least they are still being produced.

      1. I knew that each episode takes a while to produce but I didn’t think it would take 4 months per episode. Thought it would have been like 2 months. Given the number of episodes already broadcast Ludo must have started back in 2016 or maybe even earlier. I’m just very glad that they are still going.

What’s a pity though, is that the ABC didn’t have enough money to buy the world wide rights as well as the commercial rights (toys, etc. etc.) to Bluey. The BBC did & on-sold them to Disney+ & others. The fact that you need a TV licence in the UK gives the BBC the ability to do just that and then make more money to do other big doco’s, etc. etc. Wonder what the ABC would be like today if Whitlam (I think) didn’t end the TV licence here. But I suppose there would be a lot of people complaining…..

    1. Actually I believe production on Series 3 has been completed, and a fourth season has not been officially announced. I’m guessing ABC are trying to stretch the remaining episodes out for as long as possible.
