Four Corners to rebroadcast FOX and the Big Lie

Following admissions by FOX News in the US, and a previous ACMA breach, ABC hits back.

After media complaints, a controversial ACMA breach, and a US settlement, Four Corners will rebroadcast its episode FOX and the Big Lie reported by Sarah Ferguson.

This will be the second episode of the previous two part story, with a new intro by Sarah Ferguson.

On the question of whether ABC might rebroadcast any material deemed an ACMA breach, an ABC spokesperson told TV Tonight, “Fox and the Big Lie has been edited to be a stand-alone program and updated to include the latest developments. It abides by the highest editorial standards.”

In related news media mogul Lachlan Murdoch has also just dropped a high-profile defamation case against local publishers Crikey Media.

Fox News has abruptly agreed to pay more than $1 billion over allegations it promoted misinformation about the 2020 US election.

It’s one of the highest publicly known defamation settlements in US history.

The settlement with election technology company Dominion Voting Systems was the latest twist in an extraordinary case that has exposed the inner workings of the powerful Murdoch-owned conservative news network. Dominion, in addition to the huge payout, exacted a statement from Fox News that “certain claims” it made about the company were not true.

This case is just one of many launched against Fox and its friends.

Two years ago, reporter Sarah Ferguson investigated how Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News promoted Donald Trump’s propaganda and helped destabilise democracy in America.

This week Four Corners has decided to re-air that special investigation in light of the Dominion settlement.

Fox will no longer be scrutinised through a trial, so this is the complete story.

Monday 24th April at 8.30pm on ABC.

“updated to include the latest developments”

So it’s episode 3 but not really….kind of though.

I feel like they should have just done this as a proper episode 3. There’s enough to say for 5 more episodes, no lack of content.

I’ll still watch. People are going to assume it’s a repeat and not tune in. As it kind of is. Maybe. Idk. Confuse.

  2. Worth noting the actual currency of the settlement ie US dollars vs AUD-it’s very slightly under half of what Dominion was claiming and the acknowledgement by Fox was obscure and begrudging to say the least-no real ‘apology’!

    1. There is no question the amount is huge. The private equity company that bought Dominion only paid around 80m USD for it a few years ago. Plus while they could have won 1.6b at the conclusion of the court case, this amount would likely have been reduced on appeal.

So looks like Dominion made the right call despite the win basically in the bag. They get their money now and investors will be happy.

Fox can save the difference for Smartmatic 🙂
