Kerri-Anne quits the jungle

Updated: High drama in camp as a food trial leads to harsh words and Kerri-Anne Kennerley finally calling it quits.

There was high drama in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here last night after a tucker trial ended with harsh words exchanged between former MAFS participant Domenica Calarco and TV legend Kerri-Anne Kennerley.

KAK declared she would rather go home than eat a kudu testicle. There were 8 stars on offer if all 4 in the trial would finish the food, but KAK refused, saying, “Never gonna happen.”

That led Dom to question her commitment and why she agreed to join the series. But in the heat of the moment, it got personal.

Dom accused her of  contract privileges, referring to special conditions she had been granted including make-up and avoiding some physical trials.

When KAK said that if she did leave, Dom could have her make-up, to which Dom replied “I don’t want your 1989 Revlon lipstick darl.”

Frustrated by her lack of attempting the trial she added, “You’ve got no respect or decency for anyone but yourself. I’ve never met anyone so selfish in my life.”

Starving celebrities of food is this show’s secret sauce, and last night it proved again how conflict arises from depserate times and extra ordinary situations.

KAK returned first from the trial alone and recounted her side of the story, saying bcause Dom couldn’t keep the kudu testicle down, any effort from her side would have been pointless. But she started to choke up when she described the verbal abuse she faced, and being voted into three back to back challenges.

“To be called the most self-centred bitch she’s ever met. And the contract queen time and time again. I would have finished \ if she would have finished. It was never going to happen,” she explained.

This contradicts the vision where she insisted she had “no intention” of eating the food challenge.

“That said, I’ve made a choice, it was a hard choice. Because I’d love to stay. But it’s never going to work. I thought it was very unfair. I got three trials in a row,” she continued.

‘So, not against my better judgement, because it is my better judgement that I go, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’

On social media she copped a further tirade from annoyed viewers.

Despite her brief stay, KAK has certainly brought the drama and the media attention to the show in its launch week.

Job done, then?

  1. Tonight I saw the repeat of Back in Time for the Corner Shop. I was a teenager in the 70’s. I also remember the yoyo craze and Tim the Demtel man ‘Wait, theres More!!!’ Plus the magazines, the hot food, and etc. The corner shop I lived next door to from birth, also had mags. The one further down the street had the hot food. Both sold papers, and tin food, incl pet food., fruit/veg, and milk. Kudos also to the architects/set designers for changing the shop interior/exterior to match each decade/era. And wardrobe re the costumes/clothing. This show needs to be nominated for a Logie, and Win.

    1. Ah the memories….the show is good because you get to look back and see how we lived back then. I agree it does deserve a nomination. I’ve still got my yo-yo collection mostly Coco Cola with several wooden ones but the strings would snap and had to be replaced and even worse fitting them so they weren’t to long or short, then along came the plastic ones, my favourite was the The Brain which had gears and was one I could never master but it was cool just to have. Tim the Demtel man and is BOGOF (by one get on free) was a hit because he knew how to rope you in and spend all your money on not so terribly good stuff you piled in your draws, wardrobes, under your bed and cupboards. Those were the uncomplicated days.

  2. Also, re this years celebrities, I am mostly impressed and it looks like re Chris deflecting to channel 7. . . . so much for The Living Room and I wonder how Amanda Keller felt re the news of his leaving. ..that this years celebs are virtually among the best yet ie the show as it is/was is going out with a bang. I stopped liking Dicko re his infamous line to Paulini. The celebs are there in the jungle to do tucker trials, for stars, and to be the last one standing. I dont think KAK had any intention of doing it, yet she expected total respect for her stance. No way. She shouldnt have gone. Now for ch 10 to bring in a replacement that Will do the trials. Im definately on Domenica’s side. Conflict/manufactured conflict just for ratings is not on and plain childish and smacks of desperation. Wouldnt it be great if Domenica won??? I want her or Liz or Debra or maybe Dicko to win. Dont know the other men.

  3. Ten is onto a winner here…it’s got everything going for it…controversy, surprise, pot stirring, bullying, a loud mouth, ball busters, belly laughs, speculators, wannabes, has beens, terms of endearment.. darl, starvation, frayed tempers, sympathisers, those who are younger, older and those in between. It’s got people on social media telling those who made the show how best they should do it, who should go and who should stay. People telling those in the jungle what to do, what not to do, how to do it , how to behave and they aren’t even in the jungle…. Good one Ten…and thanks to Idiotbox and PLT66 for your perspective on which I agree.

  4. I saw the Jungle Show. Am N o t a fan of MAFS. But I did watch parts of it last year. I did like Domenica. I will say Ive liked Kerry Anne Kennerly till now. But I do wonder if it was a publicity stunt that backfired badly, or she has become selfish and does have an entitlement attitude. What Chris Brown and Julia Morris are doing is Not funny, but they Have toned down. Re Chris doing the endless list of KAK, was way over the top and unfunny. I do agree with Domenica; why did KAK go on the show for when its a well known fact the celebrities are there for the food trials., and to raise money for their chosen charity. Chris said theye been trying to get her for 10 years, and she lasts 4 days. Yes, but what was her attitude; And; being called Royalty, probably did no favours either.. If he was trying to cause futher issues for Demenica, it didnt work with me. Maybe KAK never has been spoken to like that, but maybe she needed to be. Im not a fan of Dicko either.

  5. Yeah I was not impressed with KAK’s effort, first night she did really well but from then her attitude towards challenges was pretty pathetic not to even give it a go, lets not forget they are there for charity.

  6. For God’s sake people’s. Lighten up! If someone does or doesn’t want to do the trials, don’t hold it against them. Its their perogative to pass. They dont have to please you, or do what you think they should do ( because what you think they should do, isn’t necessarily right) Suck it up. You’ll still get your beans and rice to eat. You won’t starve! You did sign up for this. And look on the bright side – you’re not in the jungle forever!
Don’t be like the bogan from MAFS and just see everything in Black and White!

    1. True, they don’t have to participate in the trials…but if you make it clear that you have no intention of participating in the trials what are you there for…to sit in a camp and eat the food that others that do participate in the trials have won??

Just smacks of KAK accepting a rather large payday for very minimal effort

  7. Must admit i was surprised how KAK handled it.She probably has always hated the show hence why she always never wanted to be on it.In her past she was never afraid to take on a challenge when she did the midday show for example and loved doing it.Being part of the team is important on I’m A Celeb to get through challenges. You have to at least have a go.KAK why did you bother being on it then.I for one was disappointed with your commitment

  8. Well last night’s ratings were 367K and so much for KAK drawing interest ,now we have Nick Cummins arriving this week ,didn’t he nearly sink The Bachelor although that is a different show.

      1. Thursday nights tend to be soft for any show other then sport. However I don’t think Celebrity will crack 500K again until the finale unless it can draw more controversy and sustain media attention. There’s promise for Dicko and his mouth to do that before season end.

  9. I do find the nastiness level from the hosts has gone up a notch this season, particularly in regards to Kerrie-Anne. They should keep in mind that without the “celebs”, the hosts wouldn’t have a show to host.

  10. Definitely job well done! I imagine 10, ITV and KAK laughing all the way to the bank! KAK dignity still intact having not eaten a testicle in public. I imagine she’s broken a few balls privately in meetings with blokey TV station managements over the years though! LOL
Keeping in mind that a TV set is still actually a workplace, I’m wondering if some of the public’s social media comments supporting how the MAFS woman spoke to KAK are appropriate and would tolerate it in their own places of work?
Stay classy Kerri-Anne and love you!

  11. What was it that Stephen Tate said about not casting for conflict ?
Kerri-anne, Steve Price, Anthony Mundine, David OIdfield, Tziporah Atarah Malkah, Bernard Tomic were obviously cast for their strong views and/or abrasive personalities.

  12. Well I think we we all saw this coming sooner rather than later. Her attitude was a good give away. And i came to this conclusion only through TV adds and snippets.

  13. Job done KAK for making Celeb interesting. I feel like a few of the contestants and definitely the hosts picked on her over the contract thing throughout, it bordered on bullying. KAK showed emotion on her exit which was a bit sad to watch because she has had a tough time losing her husband and job in past years and hasn’t had a great run, and although she doesn’t look it she is a 70 year old woman.

  14. Absolute ratings good for this show. KAK’s departure and antics even if planned, the departure is to soon. I haven’t heard people talk about IACGMOOH like this in years, it was drawing a crowd that’s likely to drop off unless Dicko becomes a Princess or someone else controversial is dropped into the jungle.

  15. Certainly job done, brought us all in to see what would happen, disappointing she didn’t even make an attempt or pretend to try at the very least, was always going to be voted into every trial too if you don’t do them.
Be interesting to see if on Sunday Chris and Julia do a departure interview.

  16. i know “celebrities” from overseas like tom arnold get paid for this..and he never lasted too long iirc.would kak have gotten paid for her stint on the show, and would it have been irrespective of how long she lasted?

  17. Based on her behaviour in IACGMOOH, I can’t say I very much like KAK as a person anymore.

But in terms of the show itself, she brought the drama and the interest, so I’m sorry she’s gone. She filled a necessary role and it would have been interesting to see if she could redeem herself or grow a little by sticking it out. Guess we’ll never know.

I do commend the producers for their choice of celebrities this year. Even though I only know a few, I feel like it’s a good mix.

    1. I agree that the producers did a good job with the casting of this year’s celebrities.

As for KAK being gone, it is a shame that she won’t be around to provide drama and interest for the rest of the show. That being said, since she wasn’t really participating in the challenges, which is a major part of the show, her departure was inevitable.

  18. Peter Ford was right with his “I hope they aren’t setting her up” quip. Obviously KAK was a publicity stunt snd I’m sure she knows it. It’s a shame they put a bogan from MAFS on this show, the reality rejects tend to ruin the fun.

I do wish Kerri-Anne gave it more of a try. This clearly wasn’t the show for her.

    We still love you KAK.

  19. I don’t watch this show, nor do I know how this Domenica person is, but my god this line is Gold “I don’t want your 1989 Revlon lipstick darl.”
