Gabriel Gaté guests on MasterChef

A famed TV chef steps into the MasterChef kitchen this week.

Great to see famed TV chef Gabriel Gaté is turning up this week on MasterChef.

He features in this week’s Immunity Challenge.

Gaté has enjoyed 40 years on TV after first appearing on Touch of Elegance in Adelaide in 1979 with What’s Cooking on Nine, plus Body & Soul, The Good Food Show, Fun in the Kitchen, Good Morning Australia and 15 seasons of Taste Le Tour for SBS.

Get ready for flames to fly as the winning team from last night learn how to flambé and put their new skill to work over two rounds.

In round one, contestants have 75 minutes to cook a dish featuring a flambé element. The cook with the best dish will win guaranteed immunity from this Sunday’s elimination and go through to round two to take on much-loved guest chef, Gabriel Gaté.

7:30pm Thursday on 10.

  1. Long time admirer of Gabriel Gaté….I did enjoy his breaks during the cycling…he does not do that any more….I have enjoyed all the guest chefs/cooks.

  2. I feel like TV chefs are weirdly underused on this show. The first season had a few because of Gary and George’s connections with Ready Steady Cook, and you get the huge international (read: British) names like Nigella and Jamie and Gordon a bit, but outside of that it’s really just Maggie Beer and Curtis Stone, and people like Poh who started on this show who fit the description? We’ve never had Gabriel before, or Geoff Jansz or Huey or any of the old GMA regulars. Even Miguel, who you’d think they’d want to get on to cross-promote The Living Room, only ever did one Masterclass episode in 2011. It’s a bizarre gap for the show to have, considering how they always say they’re looking for the “best home cooks”.

  3. Geoff Jansz and Iain Hewitson – the original Celebrity Chefs, and were awesome on daytime tv. Agree that they should appear on Masterchef.

As for Gabriel Gate, i loved seeing him on the Tour de France doing the various cooking segments. So am glad he is popping up on Masterchef.
