Summit participant’s links to the Vicar of Dibley

Reality participant Josh Waldhorn is the son of a very familiar sitcom face.

If you’ve been watching The Summit, you’ll probably be surprised (like I was) to learn that one of the cast has links to The Vicar of Dibley.

53 year old graphic designer Josh Waldhorn is the son of the late Gary Waldhorn, who featured as David Horton, the Head of the Parish Council in the Dawn French sitcom.

“He was a Shakespearean actor, really, but he was known for sitcoms,” Josh told Mediaweek.

“I grew up in the schools of theatre with all sorts of famous people. I was even in a play with him, Waiting for Godot which was a very famous production.”

He also played Lionel Bainbridge in the first three series of Brush Strokes  plus The Sweeney, Brush Strokes, Hotel Babylon, French and Saunders, Softly Softly, Space: 1999, The New Avengers, Brideshead Revisited, The Professionals, Minder, Robin of Sherwood, Rumpole of the Bailey, The Bill, Heartbeat.

Gary passed away at the age of 78 in January 2022 with Josh and his family flying back to the UK for a memorial which was attended by co-stars Dawn French and James Fleet and Four Weddings and a Funeral star Richard Curtis.

When Gary passed away, Josh was in a very “dark place” and decided he wanted to have an “adventure”.

“One of the things I really would like to be seen as from this show is that I’m an inspiration to all the millions of people out there that are in a dark place in their lives,” he said.
