Her work garnered two BAFTA awards for Production Design and Costume Design, and an AFI award for Production Design. Martin co-produced Luhrmann’s epic Australia in 2008 and was also the film’s production designer and costume designer. Starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, the film earned Martin an Academy Award nomination for Costume Design. The film will soon be reconceived as a six-part limited series, launching on Hulu and Disney+ in late 2023. In addition to winning two Academy Awards for Art Direction and Costume Design for her work on Luhrmann’s 2013 film The Great Gatsby Martin was also a producer. In 2016, Martin executive produced Luhrmann’s Netflix Original Series The Get Down, and co-designed both sets and costumes for the pilot. Most recently, Martin served as a producer, production designer and costume designer on Luhrmann’s 2022 box office and critical hit Elvis, garnering another three Academy Award nominations for Art Direction, Costume Design and Martin’s first Best Picture nomination. Martin’s additional projects with Luhrmann include guest editing the first signature edition of Vogue Australia in 1994, returning to collaborate with Vogue on two issues of Vogue Living Australia in 2009 and 2022. She designed the look of Luhrmann’s two lavish brand films for Chanel No. 5, in 2004 and 2014, for which legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld created the costumes.
