7plus the new home of Shortland Street

Long-running NZ soap is coming back to screens for Aussie soap fans, thanks to a deal with 7plus.

South Pacific Pictures and All3 Media have announcd a broadcast partnership deal with 7plus, to become the new home of the long-running New Zealand drama, Shortland Street in Australia.

The medical drama, now in its 31st year has seen over 1.5 million New Zealand viewers on average per week tune in to watch over seven thousand episodes.

It last screened in Australia on SBS VICELAND in February on a cliffhanger episode as fire engulfed the hospital, one of the biggest cliffhangers in its three decade history.

From Monday, 3rd July, it picks up from the same cliffhanger, dropping from 3pm weekdays.

South Pacific Pictures’ CEO Kelly Martin says: “We are thrilled to have 7plus as our broadcast partner screening Shortland Street in Australia. We’ve had a huge amount of feedback from fans in Australia who are eager to continue watching the show and we are thrilled that 7plus have helped us to make that happen.”

  1. I’m excited it’s coming back to watch legally in Australia, but I think people who have found alternate ways to watch it like YouTube or VPN will prob stick with that, rather than wait for 4 months of “repeats”

    It would be great if they approached it the same way SBS did after it ended with Foxtel and make all the episodes available and then release the latest episode each day.
