Chief AFL reporter quits Seven

Tom Browne resigns after 12 years with Seven.

Seven’s Chief Football Reporter Tom Browne has resigned after 12 years with the network.

The Herald Sun reports he is taking up a media and communications role with MA Financial Group and relocating family to Sydney.

Browne, who also works for Triple M, has broken some of the biggest stories in AFL, including last week’s story about Luke Beveridge breaking his hand and the sacking of Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew.

He will finish the 2023 AFL season with Seven, including the finals series, before relocating.

The Age speculates Mitch Cleary is likely to be in the running for the top reporting job, having joined the Seven Network in late 2021 after three years as a journalist with AFL Media.

  1. really couldn’t care less … one less AFL reporter, the better! The majority of sports news is always about the AFL here in Melbourne.
