Neighbours “in keeping with the last, but a new progression as well”

Executive producer Jason Herbison wants fans who loved the Neighbours finale to feel like they have their show back.

Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison is hoping the next chapter of Neighbours will satisfy long-term fans but also look to a new future.

Speaking with the TV Gold podcast he said, “I do want to say we really have appreciated the love for the show. I’m very mindful of that in how I’m bringing the show back.

“I want all of those viewers that felt that love, that watched that finale, maybe shed a tear, I want them all to feel as though they’ve got their show back. The next chapter of the show is going to be in keeping with the last, but obviously a wonderful new progression as well,” he said.

Herbison, who also spoke at length about his current Riptide drama, was asked if Neighbours‘ production slate picked up at Episode #8904 or restart at Episode #1, he indicated a continuation but added, “Prepare to have your mind blown.”

Neighbours is returning to Network 10 in September and follows a week later on Prime Video in Australia.
Riptide continues 8:40pm Wednesday on 10.

  1. I think it will easily be renewed it’s a win win for Amazon in the UK it could potentially bring a million viewers to its previously little know Freevee service, but most importantly it makes up a massive 120 hours of local content on Prime Video in Australia which is a massive chunk of their quota commitment.

  2. I’m glad it’s back. I really liked the two episodes together. I hoped we might get that again, rather than the half hour episodes. I’m also wondering if David and Aaron and Nicolette are coming back. With all I’ve read, I’m looking forward to what comes next.

  3. Will it stay on channel 10 after its replayed on Amazon prime…. only timeslot of neighbours is 6pm.. Aaron David Levi Charlotte Amy Glenn are gone

    1. Oddly they seem to be keeping quiet about what channel it’s moving to. I feel like if it was due to go back to 10 Peach, it would have been announced by now? I’m suspecting they’re planning a big shake up for the main channel in that case, and maybe shifting The Project around.

  4. The finale was perfect, that final monologue from Susan Kennedy ended the show oh so perfectly. This new season has big shoes to fill and I’ll be surprised if it gets renewed beyond the 2 season 200 episode order.

    1. Nonsense imo. The final weeks felt rushed with people leaving because they had to, storylines wrapping up because they needed to. The finale was a forced event. As I see it, this is a chance to set things up as they were to some degree for normality to resume and some decent new story arcs to form with new and old characters. Neighbours has always done well bringing back favourite characters so no doubt there will be more of that. It will be fun seeing what’s changed when it comes back.

    2. There’s some merit in the show possibly not being renewed after 200 episodes. It’s business after all, if the deal doesn’t create desired subscriptions for Amazon Prime it won’t be renewed.
It will be heavily reliant on North America and UK showing interest. I think Australia has long moved on from the must watch pop culture phenomenon Neighbours was over two decades ago, we experience a wave of nostalgia in finale week last week. I don’t expect it to rate it’s socks off on Ten once the novelty of it being back wears off. There’s merit that it’s renewal could be brief or possibly a new beginning that will be reliant on people having a subscription and watching it overseas.
