Sunrise set for new dawn

Sunrise, The Morning Show and Weekend Sunrise all set to farewell Martin Place imminently.

Sunrise will have its final broadcast from its Martin Place studio on Friday, ending a 19 year run in the Sydney CBD.

Hosting are Matt Shirvington and Monique Wright, doubtless leaving Mark Beretta as the ‘last man standing’ for the final day of broadcast, given Natalie Barr is on holiday and David Koch recently bowed out (Edwina Bartholomew joined in 2011 and Sam Mac in 2016).

Also farewelling the space is The Morning Show with Larry Emdur & Kylie Gillies closing a chapter on 16 years sharing the studio space, every one of them a ratings win.

From Monday Sunrise will embark on a new set and chapter at its Eveleigh home, following from Seven News relocating late last month.

Weekend Sunrise will be the final broadcast in the space on Sunday.

  1. That’s what I thought too. It’s going to be a different vibe not being in the CBD. The CBD location gives it an atmosphere, where as Today to me, there is no atmosphere, that’s why i made rhe switch from Today.

    1. One upon a time this was true but it all started to change after the Lindt cafe siege. The construction of the Metro behind them. That part of the city is largely dead now, and less and less people were showing up for plaza events. I also think it became a real hassle switching out set pieces all the time, and you can visibly see on some of them the were wearing down.

  2. Boy I really hope with this move to their new studios we will see a much better set for this morning show. It is really, really showing its age. It’s time for a brand new look including with its graphics and theme song intro!

    1. Couldn’t agree more!! It looks like it’s being made in the early 2000 with some cheap left over kitchen stools and a graphic design student!! It definitely looks poor when you compare it to UK equivalent “this morning” set

  3. Looking forward to a (hopefully) a completely new set. Some of the current set has windows outside so that won’t work.

It’s been a long time coming – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But about time for a refresh!
