Neale Whitaker deletes post on Block edit

After lashing production for editing out his explanation about caring for his partner, The Block judge has deleted his Instagram post.

The Block judge Neale Whitaker has deleted a social media post in which he criticised the show for editing his explanation of taking time out this season to care for his partner, David.

In his now-deleted Instagram post, Whitaker said, “I broke the news to Shaynna and Darren that I would be unable to join them each week and explained my reasons. It was an emotional conversation for all of us.

“Unfortunately those important reasons didn’t make the cut so here goes.

“This year I’ve chosen to put family first. David, my partner of 20 years, has been experiencing some serious and ongoing health issues and we knew my place was at home. Melbourne real estate expert Marty Fox will be standing in for me on the weeks I can’t be there, but I’ll still be popping up from time to time over the next 12 weeks.”

It was a surprising public slur on the show from a resident judge of 17 seasons, but one that was clearly close to his heart.

It isn’t clear if Whitaker regrets going public with his potshot or whether he was incorrect in the claims made in his post.

He will continue to be seen in the Nine series, sharing judging duties with Marty Fox.

  1. Was it a pot shot or just a statement of fact?

It may supposedly be “reality TV” but that feels like it should be an off-camera conversation and the show would probably be criticised for exploiting his situation had they aired it.

  2. It’s unfortunate he had to delee it but we all have social media clauses in our employment contracts that prevent us from making public statements about our employers.
