Returning: ESPN8: The Ocho

ESPN event covers everything from Pillow Fighting to Slippery Stairs and World Dog Surfing Championships.

ESPN2 will be the number one destination for ‘seldom seen sports’ showcasing a marathon of the craziest sports around the globe from Friday August 4 until Thursday August 9.

The event will broadcast almost 50 hours of unique and ground-breaking programming and sports – many of which are on the cusp of being discovered. It is, the Ocho-est Ocho to date, a very bold strategy, ESPN.

This will be the seventh edition of ESPN8: The Ocho, since the initiative began in the summer of 2017, inspired by the 2004 hit movie ‘Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” featuring Vince Vaughn, Christine Taylor and Ben Stiller.

Annually ‘The Ocho’ has been held on August 8, but this year given the sheer size of events planned, ESPN will begin the festivities at 11pm AEST Friday August 4, followed with the traditional 24-hour Ocho marathon, on Tuesday August 8.

In 2023 brand new seldom-seen sports will make their Ocho debut, including FootGolf, Dog Surfing, Truck and Tractor Pulling, Auctioneers Championships and the Masskrugstemmen Stein Holding Competition.

2023 The Ocho Highlights include –

Pillow Fight Championship – Twelve professional PFC pillow fights between hardcore MMA fighters, boiling down to two championship fights for a chance at the Ocho Day Championship title belt and two $5,000 cash prizes.

2023 Foot Golf World Cup – Nearly 1000 players from over 40 countries compete for the World Cup title at the Evermore Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Extreme Axe and Knife Games – The Commissioner’s Cup is a thrilling event by the World Axe Throwing League (WATL) integrated with the World Knife Throwing League (WKTL) featuring action-packed, exciting games never before seen on air.

2023 Corgi Racing Championship – Corgis from throughout the Pacific Northwest will be at Emerald Downs Racetrack in Auburn, Washington for the annual Corgi Races. There will be six heats with the top two finishers in each heat qualifying for the Championship race.

World Dog Surfing Championship – The World Dog Surfing Championship’s Best Waves features a compilation of user submissions and other features related to dogs surfing.

Ultimate Ninja World Finals – The Ultimate Ninja Athlete Association (UNAA) is a corporation that allows anyone to enter and be judged solely on their performance on the course. UNAA promotes and organizes a nationwide series at Ninja Obstacle course Gyms and competitions across the country, as well as an international series at Ninja Obstacle course Gyms and competitions across the world.

Masskrugstemmen Stein Holding Championship – Endurance competition for beer stein holding. A 3 pound glass stein is filled with 20 ounces of liquid and the last person to hold the glass aloft wins.
