Airdate: Con Girl

True crime doco centres around one woman, seventy-five aliases and three continents.

4 part true crime documentary Con Girl will screen on Seven from Sunday.

Screening in double episodes over two weekends, this is produced by CJZ and explores the many lies and lives of Australian serial con woman Samantha Azzopardi.

Azzopardi is accused of conning families and authorities in Australia, Ireland and Canada. In May 2021, she was sentenced to two years imprisonment.

Samantha appeared to be the picture of innocence, pretty and unassuming. She was, by most accounts, a “lovely girl”, the kind of person anyone would trust … and that would be a big mistake.

With identities ranging from Russian gymnast Emily Sciberras whose entire family has been killed in a murder-suicide, to a distressed teenage girl with no name who was found on the streets of Dublin after escaping a human trafficking ring, and 14-year-old Aurora Hepburn has fled a cult, Samantha had more than 75 aliases and repeatedly deceived her victims and authorities around the globe.

Con Girl spans three continents and is built around the exclusive eyewitness accounts of Samantha’s victims, taking viewers on a gripping quest to find out who is the real Samantha and why did she do what she did.

Double episode 8:45pm Sunday, 17 September on Seven.
