Isis wins Drag Race: Down Under

Melbourne queen becomes the first Australian to take out a Down Under title.

Melbourne drag artiste Isis Avis Loren has won the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under, the first Australian to win the regional series.

She defeated runner-up Gabriella Labucci and third-placed Flor for the 2023 title, winning a year’s supply of make-up, crown and sceptre and $50,000 cash.

“It means everything,” she said.

“You’re born in a star and a star is born in you!

“I couldn’t be more happier.”

The final with judges RuPaul, Michelle Visage and Rhys Nicholson included appearances from Season Two’s Kween Kong and winner Spankie Jackson.

Isis Avis Loren is a prominent queen of the Naarm, Melbourne drag scene – a slender yet curvaceous catwalk model with a mix of old-fashioned glamour and fierce, edgy entertainment. Having received acclaim since she first hit the stage in 2013 performing both nationally and overseas, she has also found success co-producing her own solo show Ballads & Ballgowns, running two seasons in 2021 and 2022. Well known for her high fashion, gowns, and gorgeous looks that are all custom couture creations made by her own hand, Isis certainly knows her way around a sewing machine taking out Best Costumier and Miss Congeniality at the Melbourne Drag Awards in 2019 and dressing much of the elite Melbourne drag scene in her Haus of Loren creations.

  1. Congrats Isis! (Also typo in the story, her name’s Flor not Flora)

Re: quality – there isn’t as much of an industry for drag in Australia as there is in the US so of course the quality of our Drag Race isn’t going to be as good, which is a shame but idk, I think it’s ok at least?

  2. Honestly, it’s just so cheap and nasty a production. I’m surprised Ru and Michelle have anything to do with it and don’t just outsource it to other presenters like Drag Race Canada and most of the other international spin offs.

  3. I love Drag Race but we now have three seasons of a poorly produced, underwhelmingly cast local version. Regurgitating a formula should be easy but WBITVP just ain’t hitting the mark with it at all. I wish they’d shift it to someone like Shine Endemol who know how to do Aussie versions of international brands we can be proud of.

    1. The site rule is always Broadcast = News, and Spoilers before Broadcast. I might give an alert if I am publishing Live result in the case of a big finale like Block Auction, MasterChef winner etc. FYI Stan sent a press release with winner results at 7am.

      1. I thought the same thing. But I was 2 or 3 eps behind and then thought oh well, good, I won’t have to waste time catching up on a poorly produced local version on this show!!
