“Some people think it’s this leftist communist propaganda show”

Comedian Michael Hing understands criticism of The Project, but sees it from both sides too.

On Thursday 10 will screen a comedy special featuring The Project‘s Michael Hing (last week it also aired one by Sam Taunton).

Hing, whose credits include Where Are You Really From?, The Feed and Celebrity Letters and Numbers, has also given an interview to The Sydney Morning Herald.

“After 10 years, everyone knows about The Project,” he said. “Some people think it’s this leftist communist propaganda show. Other people think it’s this racist, alt-right show. There’s been a real variety of panellists and guests and hosts, so I can understand the criticism that people have of it not agreeing with their values.

“In my experience, it’s been the best. I mean, we joke about how the ABC has no money, but there are so many brilliant ideas at the ABC and there’s just no ability to execute them because of more than a decade of funding cuts. So the first thing I noticed at The Project is how incredible it is to never have to knock back a guest because you can’t afford to fly someone in.”

Long Live The Hing special airs on Thursday, September 28, at 8.30pm on 10.

  1. To me it seems the show can’t decide what it wants to be: News or Comedy. At the moment (in my opinion) they aren’t doing either one as well as they could. Hing is a joy to watch, however producers needs to stop trying to make Sam Taunton happen: he’s just not that clever or funny. Tommy Little was the best bloke in that seat. He has charisma, looks, laughs and charm.

  2. I don’t know about this statement “Other people think it’s this racist, alt-right show”.

No issue with Hing though. In fact if it was just Hing & Harris 5 nights a week on a simplified desk/1 location it’d be a better show.
