WTFAQ: Sept 20

New ABC show generates a bit of Chaser-like publicity for one particular question.

New ABC show WTFAQ has generated a bit of publicity for itself with a Chaser-like prank when Kirsten Drysdale addressed the question, “What baby names can’t you legally use?”

She submitted the name ‘Methamphetamine Rules’ for her newborn son to the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages with ABC posting it to YouTube ahead of its broadcast next week (49,000 views in a day and climbing).

That cleverly generated some juicy, somewhat controversial, publicity.

Language

A spokesman told Daily Mail Australia, “While an unusual name has unfortunately slipped through, the NSW Registrar will be exercising her ability to correct the name in consultation with the parents.

“The Registry has since strengthened its processes in response to this highly unusual event.

“The vast majority of parents do not choose a name for their newborn baby that is obscene, offensive or contrary to the public interest.

“We thought, what is the most outrageous name we can think of that will definitely not be accepted?” Drysdale told news.com.au.

“It was really just a lighthearted, curious attempt to get an answer to this question.”

She also told ACA she checked what the risks were before proceeding, and there was no need for a change of name process.

“No, he won’t, because that’s if you do a ‘change of name’. This is a different thing, it’s a ‘correction’, so there’s no endorsements on the bottom of the birth certificate that way.”

Meanwhile the official synopsis for tonight’s episode is:

Chas Licciardello takes a bath in custard to see if Centerlink’s hold music is deliberately annoying, & Lawrence Leung goes to great heights to discover why birds can sit safely on powerlines.

9pm tonight on ABC.

  1. The name is neither obscene, offensive or contrary to the public interest. Employers would love that a simple check of Krisin’s social would help them with hiring decisions. More amusing than the Home & Away sketch I had to sit through before Star Struck. 10 minutes of rubbish avoiding ” Summer Bay, a fictional seaside town in New South Wales.” in the wikipedia.

      1. I found the clip on YouTube yesterday…Kirsten advised no names with official titles or ranks are allowed…..a great comment was…is “Earl” a name or title? ….I thought WTF kinda Q is that.. I would be interested in the answer to that. 🤣

  2. Curious…would…Dwayne Pipe….Phil McGavity…Ophelia Feet… Dave Spanksalot…Ben Dover…Sam Sung…and Chris P Bacon or worse…be suitable …then there are the double barrel names…Edward Edwards…George Georges and Peter Grace…that confuse people but they are okay…it makes me wonder how many people actually do come up with OTT “handles” for their kids and get rejected.
