Andrew Probyn joins Nine

Former ABC political editor Andrew Probyn is joining Nine’s Canberra Bureau as National Affairs Editor.

Probyn was the highest profile name to go under recent ABC redundancies, which triggered a wave of headlines and social media commentary.

In a note to staff Nine News Director Darren Wick said, “Andrew is highly regarded, respected and well liked among his peers in the Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery and brings to Nine his three decades of experience as a reporter and an envious track record of breaking major stories.

“He has twice been named Press Gallery Journalist of the Year. He is a three times Walkley Awards finalist, the winner of the Melbourne Press Club’s prestigious Golden Quill, and was named Western Australian Journalist of the Year in 2016.

“As National Affairs Editor, a new role for 9 News in Canberra, Andrew will bring an extra level of in-depth coverage to our team led by Chief Political Editor, Charles Croucher.”

Andrew Probyn added, “I’m delighted to be joining Nine’s powerhouse Parliament House bureau. At a time when the need for reliable, trusted and agenda-free news has never been greater, I look forward to working alongside Charles Croucher and some of Australian journalism’s best.”

Probyn joining Nine was first rumoured in July.

He will start in the Bureau next month.
