Cal Wilson: Rare cancer confirmed as cause of death

Management confirm Cal Wilson died of a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Cal Wilson died of a rare and aggressive form of cancer her management, Token Artists, has confirmed to press.

The NZ-born comedian, actor and writer, 53, died on Wednesday morning at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.

She was in hospital for the four weeks leading up to her death, The Age reports.

A new season of The Great Australian Bake Off was in production when she was first admitted to hospital.

But reports that she collapsed on set are incorrect.

An outpouring from the entertainment industry yesterday remembered a much-loved, joyous performer described as generous, kind and talented.

Her husband Chris and son Digby have asked for privacy at this time.

  1. A shining light, was Cal. The outpouring reflects her ability to make people laugh and feel good, and Cal Wilson did that with all her work across the more than two decades. This lady will be so missed.
