Victorian backing vocalist Tarryn Stokes has won The Voice 2023.
Mentored by UK pop star Rita Ora, she wins $100,000 and a recording contract with Universal Music Australia.
The mother of two, 40, defeated finalists Charlie Pittman, Ezra Williams and Ethan Beckton to take out the title.
“It feels amazing, going from The Blinds to being in the Grand Finale and somehow believing that I can do this, it’s just thanks to Rita for believing in me,” she said.
In the grand final she performed All By Myself plus a duet Simply the Best with Rita Ora.
Her winning single is titled Nobody.
The Grand Final wraps a successful season for Seven, produced by ITV Studios Australia. Auditions are open for a 2024 season.

Considering the brevity of the careers of former Voice winners, I’m guessing that the length of the “recording contract” is a generous 6 months?
6 weeks?
She didn’t sound like anybody special to me may not last long in the public eye
Tarryn singing ‘All By Myself’ was the most incredible performance I have ever seen on any music show to date. A true X Factor performance, that’s the song she should record. I hope Universal Music are hard at work today trying to get the rights for her to launch her version of it, it will make her music career saw!!
I reckon Tarryn will be “stoked” with the win!
It might be successful for Seven, but it won’t be successful for anyone on the show except Sonia Kruger. Even Mauboy’s single has tanked, and it featured Derulo. Now I don’t watch the show but I’m an avid music listener. Tarryn’s song was the weakest winner’s single there was of the four. The others all fit in to genres that have ruled radio over the past few years… Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi etc. Tarryn also has the least amount of commercial appeal (hit radio just don’t play full ballads… not without an awful remix shoehorned in, or preposterously, they don’t play artists over 40). This isn’t an attack on anyone, because they are all undeniably talented… this is an attack on the Voice. Audiences don’t vote til the four remaining ones have been chosen for them. There’s never going to be a superstar born from this format here in Aus. There’s no connect with the contestants because of the brutal nature of the contest. It’s all fluff. No substance. Sonia wins. Unfortunately.
Agree – how many The Voice former winners have extended their 15 mins? Once the show’s over, onto next series.
Perhaps I’m being too cynical but I would imagine sevens main (only?) goal here is to get close to the block in ratings. And they achieved that. Now they need to find a similar program to get closer to MAFS. I watched the voice and did enjoy. And the right talent was selected for the final 4. Personally I preferred Ethan but am not surprised Taryn won. It was a booming performance.
yes there is little market for a cover of an old song by Celine Dion, or a 40yo unknown backup singer the public barely got to know.
Such is The Voice.
I’m always struck by the fact that on a non live show they must have recorded 4 outcomes of a winner; including the hoopla of the confetti and glitter and everyone descending onto the stage, each time focusing on a different ‘winner’. It must seem so unreal. Literally.
Absolutely agree with you! I understand why and I get it with Masterchef when its only 2 contestants, but this was 4 so what a waste and its not a genuine reaction to winning. It also lost me airing 2 weeks after the semi final – I didn’t care by the end. Sadly, none of these shows beat the OG Australian Idol years back in the day – so much success out of those years and never replicated since!
