Call for Entries: AACTA Brian Walsh Award

Nicole Kidman sponsors $50,000 AACTA award for emerging talent, in honour of the late Brian Walsh.

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts has announced the AACTA Brian Walsh Award for Emerging Talent, sponsored by actress Nicole Kidman.

The award aimed at discovering and nurturing the next generation of Australian actors pays homage to the late Brian Walsh, who left a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.

Family friend, Nicole Kidman shared a long-term friendship with Walsh, including on the acclaimed series Vietnam (1987) and Bangkok Hilton (1989).

The recipient will receive $50,000 towards their career development, contributed by Nicole Kidman and gain career support, substantial exposure and recognition through AACTA and its partners.

“Brian Walsh played an important and influential role in the careers of many, including my own. I considered him family, and for that reason I approached AACTA with a view to creating a legacy in his name worthy of Brian’s long and substantial career,” said Kidman.

The AACTA Brian Walsh Award for Emerging Talent is open to emerging actors with less than five years of professional, credited experience. Entrants must be over 18 years of age and cannot have previously been nominated for an AACTA Award.

Entries close 5.00pm AEDT Friday December 1, 2023.

  1. The timing of this Award is both poignant and joyful. Today marks what would have been Brian Walsh’s 68th birthday. He was always passionate about Australian talent and finding and providing opportunities for new ones to shine. Well done Nicole Kidman for facilitating this Award and uplifting the memory of Brian’s contribution to the entertainment industry.
    I trust he was aware of how much he was loved when he was alive.
