10 News First status quo in Perth

While jobs seem to go in news depts at breakneck speed, these days we seemingly celebrate escaping management budget cuts.

10 News First has bizarrely stated it is “thrilled to announce that the 5.00pm weekday bulletin will continue to be produced locally and broadcast live from 10 Perth’s studio in Subiaco.”

10 has been broadcasting from its Subiaco studios with presenter Natalie Forrest, Lachy Reid (Sport) and Beau Pearson (Weather) since March.

Next year that will continue, just like every other bulletin in the country, except for Brisbane, which is still broadcast from Sydney.

Martin White, Head of Broadcast News, said: “I’m immensely proud of the bulletin our local Perth team puts to air every day, and our focus is on strong, local news presented from our studio in Subiaco.”

Pamela Magill, Executive Editor 10 News First Perth, said: “The Perth newsroom has been delighted to be able to bolster our already strong local content with a locally presented bulletin. The decision to keep the bulletin in Perth is great news for our audience and really serves to highlight our commitment to local news.”

Paul Townsend, General Manager and Sales Director Perth, added: “I am thrilled to be able to share that 10 News First will continue to be produced and broadcast from our Perth station. The team do an incredible job and with Nat, Lachy and Beau on the desk we can ensure the best of Perth News is delivered locally with the support of the broader Paramount business globally.”

It isn’t clear if 10 will issue statements that it is thrilled to continue the status quo in Melbourne, Sydney or for every other show in the schedule, but I guess at this time of year, TV can be grateful for small mercies.

  1. My memory might be failing (entirely possible!) but IIRC Ten had previously only committed to a temporary return of the NEW-10 bulletin from Perth instead of from Sydney. This announcement may be confirming that the temporary arrangement is now to be ongoing (or until the next round of budget cuts at least).

    I may stand corrected, however.

  2. Having the news presented locally will help viewers feel loyal and connected.
I remembered back in 2000 when Perth news was presented from Syd studios – they had Ron Wilson, Tim Webster and Celine Edmonds. We all knew what happened in 2007 with the sudden death of Charmaine. After her death, there were plans to return the Perth bulletin back to WA. Six months later, Perth news returned to WA with Narelda Jacobs taking over news. A few years later, they added Craig Smart to present the news. Sadly, his tenure was cut short in late 2012, hence Jacobs continued to present solo until late 2019 (that’s when she moved to S10).

  3. We need a local bulletin in Brisbane. What a joke that the 3rd largest city doesn’t have it’s own bulletin. Especially in a huge news week with a cyclone & a Premier resigning.
    Do better 10
