Returning: Cobra

Third season of political thriller with Robert Carlyle screens in February.

Season 3 of Cobra, titled as Cobra: Rebellion, will screen on BBC First in February.

The six part series stars Robert Carlyle, Victoria Hamilton & Lisa Palfrey.

It screened in the UK in October.

The crisis spirals to encompass not only the urgent threat of environmental destruction but also the malignant corruption of the arms industry and the rise of shadowy corporate security firms. The cabinet is faced with the inconvenient reality of the UK’s historic relationship with a global superpower. All these elements combine to lead the Prime Minister to a crucial decision, about who he is personally, and what – ultimately – he is willing to sacrifice in order to remain in power.

Sundays at 8.30pm from February 4 on BBC First.

  1. If the viewer could ignore the dystopian sideline distractions the first two Cobra series were just formulaic British politics and power yarns, it was mostly thanks to the competent main cast that the show eventually became an interesting piece of escapism, but realistically Robert Sutherland’s tenure as British PM (Robert Carlyle) would not have lasted past season 1.

  2. And filming started back in October 2022, when restrictions were lifted. S3 will probably be on SBS in a year. It has a good cast but doesn’t quite work. Part B grade disaster film, part political thriller, and now some romance. None of which work that well.
