Actor Troy Beckwith, best known for Neighbours, has died.

Actor Troy Beckwith, best known for Neighbours, has died aged 48.

Former cast mates posted on social media indicating he died on January 24, following a battle with cancer.

Beckwith played Michael Martin from 1992 to 1998 (pictured above) replacing Samuel Hammington who appeared as a younger version in 1985.

Kym Valentine, who played Libby Kennedy, wrote: “It pains me so much to have to say this. Our dear old friend Troy Beckwith has passed away. Another member of our TV family [has] gone way too soon.

She added: “Thanks for all the memories my cheeky mate and all my love to your friends and family.”

Former casting director Jan Russ posted: “Dear Troy… That is so sad. Gorgeous boy.”

Brett Blewitt who played Brett Stark, wrote: “ He was such a lovely person. Deeply thoughtful and empathetic. Cheeky and playful once out of his shell. Way too soon. Love you mate.”

Lucinda Cowden also posted a string of broken heart emojis.

Beckwith, who also featured in Pugwall, Blue Heelers, Pugwall, The Miraculous Mellops, Good Guys Bad Guys, Snowy and Halifax f.p., made headlines in 2017 when he vanished for several days before being located.

Neighbours official Instagram said:“Everyone here at Neighbours was very saddened to hear of the passing of Troy Beckwith. Fans will remember Troy for his memorable role as Michael Martin in the 1990s. We send our love and condolences to his loved ones at this very difficult time.

Executive Producer, Jason Herbison said, “Everyone at Neighbours remembers Troy as a very talented young actor who brought passion and complexity to the role of Michael. Our thoughts are with his loved ones.’”

There will be no funeral as per his final wishes.

Updated: “Troy would be so humbled by all these messages of love,” Shane Beckwith. wrote on social media. “The family would like everyone to know that Troy fought a tough battle with cancer. Some news sources are suggesting otherwise, which is totally untrue.”

  1. As a kid, I was almost obsessed by the Michael vs Julie storyline on Neighbours. A teenager making his mean step-mother – and the rest of the street – think she was crazy was suburban Hitchcockian magic. I couldn’t wait to get home and see what he’d do next.

    Plus Pugwall and Mellops, two iconic Aussie kids shows folks of that era still remember so fondly.

    A real loss.
