Australian Idol caps voting before finale

Previously unlimited but now fans have a limit of 10 votes per performance show.

Australian Idol has put a cap of 10 votes per person on public voting, just a week from its final.

The change comes despite hosts regularly telling viewers about the millions of votes received for the Top 12 vocalists.

Last night nobody was given a judge’s save, leaving all six singers vulnerable tonight.

But the change to 10 votes could stop favouritism impacting what is a TV popularity vote.

A Seven spokesperson said, “Over the last few weeks, a record six million votes have been cast in support of Australia’s favourite Idols.

“In the lead up the Grand Finale and in anticipation of an unprecedented volume of votes, we are introducing a limit of 10 votes per voter.

“Viewers can vote up to ten times for the same Idol or spread their votes across multiple Idols.

“Voting is now open and closes at 7pm Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time.”

TV Tonight understands the change is also to ensure smooth counting of votes in its final stages.

After tonight just three will remain standing for two Live shows, next Sunday and Monday when the winner is announced.

Should voting continues live into the Grand Final itself, then a cap of 10 votes may mean producers are not taking any chances on counting incorrectly.
