UK celebrity chef and TV presenter, best known for the Hairy Bikers' franchise, has died.

UK celebrity chef and TV presenter Dave Myers, best known for the Hairy Bikers’ franchise, has died aged 66.

He died two years after revealing he had been diagnosed with cancer.

Hairy Bikers co-star Si King, announced he passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday surrounded by family and friends.

“I’m afraid I bear some sad news. Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years,” he wrote.

“All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own.

“Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow.

“I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. I wish you God’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.”

The bearded pair were known for travelling around the UK and the world on their motorbikes, sampling and cooking food from different regions.

The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook began in 2006 and was followed by The Hairy Bikers Ride Again, The Hairy Bikers’ Food Tour of Britain, The Hairy Bikers: Mums Know Best, The Hairy Bikers’ Asian Adventure and Hairy Bikers: Best of British. In Australia they screened largely on SBS Food.

Charlotte Moore, Chief Content Officer, says, “Everyone at the BBC is incredibly sad to hear this news. Dave made cooking a truly joyful adventure and he shared that joy with millions. The public loved him and his unique partnership with Si. Together they made every viewer feel like a friend. More than that he was simply a lovely man. Our thoughts go out to his family and many friends.”

  1. This is so sad…I saw it on This Morning last night and couldn’t believe it …he had only been on the show late last year….they were unique in their own way and the male version similar to The Two Fat Ladies….they made the show enjoyable to watch the way they interacted….their food was never complicated or ott….as legend has it Dave was the one responsible for coming up with the idea of the white stripe across Adam Ant’s face on the song Stand and Deliver when he was a make up artist…my heart goes out to his family and I cannot imagine what Si must be feeling loosing he friend…thank you for the joy you brought..rest easy. Dave..you will be missed

  2. This one’s hit me harder than expected. I legit thought during the Xmas special that Dave looked pretty healthy considering..Hairy Bikers … was (that does not sound right) my go-to cooking show. First thing I ever cooked and mastered that wasn’t a hand-me-down recipe was a HB recipe. Accessible and achieveable stuff, even for the mug cooks like me. Excellent “back pocket style” recipes. I’m sad there will be no more. Ride on gentle soul.

  3. I was so shocked to read that online last night. I had no idea he was ill. I love watching “The Hairy Bikers”. Their friendship was one of the highlights of the show. Sending love to his family and friends. Thanks for the wonderful memories, Dave.
