Could Justin & Leah be a next-gen Pippa & Tom?

In Summer Bay's new nuptials, veteran Ray Meagher sees echoes of the past.

It’s a Summer Bay wedding for Home & Away‘s Justin (James Stewart) and Leah (Ada Nicodemou) this week.

It brings together a new family unit in the Summer Bay universe and potential new storylines for writers with its mix of generations.

Ray Meagher recently paid tribute to the dup,  whilst saying of the veteran cast members, “We’re not just there as part of the tapestry but that’s a fairly heavy percentage of why we’re here now.

“Because the real drama and interest is for the young people coming in, and, by young people at the moment Jimmy Stewart and Ada Nicodemou -their characters are sort of firing pretty well, in terms of screen time and all of that.”

Meagher suggested their union might open a new way forward for writers, but with a nod to the past.

“That’d be an ideal couple, because of both their ethnicities to have as -not a new Tom & Pippa exactly- but as a stabilised, traditional family unit that brought in foster kids,” he continued.

“You’ve got one with a Chinese heritage and background. And the other one that’s very proud Cypriot – I nearly said Greek!”

Home & Away 7pm Tuesday on Seven.

  1. Home and Away would need to acknowledge their cultural backgrounds first. I can’t remember the last time they acknowledged Leah’s Greek heritage.

They’d probably also have to bring back Summer Bay High, which for the life of me, I can’t figure out why they abandoned it.

    1. Leah explicitly referenced her “Greek” heritage a couple of weeks ago. In any case, most of the characters on the show don’t have enough extended family members for their cultural backgrounds to really manifest themselves or have any bearing on the storylines.
