SBS screens a new railway series this week with the UK’s Abandoned Railways From Above.

This is a six part factual series.

All over Britain, there are abandoned railways with fascinating stories waiting to be explored from above. Lost behind old stone walls, buried in forests and hidden in the landscape, 5000 miles of railway and 2000 station remain forgotten. Each episode explores a different lost railway line with its own unique history, revealing the vibrant industries that were once dotted along its route and the ingenious engineering that was needed to build it.

Famed for its summer holiday trains and old-world charm, we follow one of Britain’s most beloved lost lines through some of the most beautiful countryside the nation has to offer on a journey through Somerset and Dorset.
