Jo Hall marks 45 years at Nine News

TV survivor chalks up another milestone at Nine News Melbourne.

This week marks 45 years since Jo Hall joined Nine News in Melbourne.

In a note to staff Hugh Nailon, Director of Nine News Melbourne said, “It’s an incredible achievement in any industry, but Jo has defied the odds to flourish in TV News for four and a half decades.

“When Joey started on the road in 1979, she broke new ground as one of the very few female reporters. From hard news to colour yarns, Joey could do it all, winning awards and capturing the attention of the Victorian news audience. From the road to the studio, Jo cemented herself for many years as the anchor for Nine’s all-conquering weekend news.

“In more recent times Joey launched our regional news service, and of course has returned to the road to bring her unique warmth and personality to some beautiful feature stories which really add to the rich texture of our news offering.”

Fiona Dear, Director of News & Current Affairs said, “Congratulations Jo, 45 years is an incredible achievement. Thank you for your dedication and for your warmth -warmth in story telling and warmth in the newsroom – you are loved by many, including GTV’s loyal audience.”

TV Tonight has previously filed on her 35th and 40th anniversaries when she said, “When I started in the newsroom there was only 1 other female reporter and she was considerably older and a tough, single woman. And in other roles editing, camera, there were very few women in newsrooms. So just by the statistics there were more men.

“I can’t imagine what my life would have been like had I not gone for that interview all that time ago. To grow up and live my whole life, virtually in front of the television camera it’s certainly been a ride, for me and my family.”

  1. Oh Hi Jo from Sydney. NSW suffered Jo-withdrawal when TCN9 stopped playing your Late News on Sunday nights. A decade or two ago I think. Congratulations for 45 years at GTV9 News.
