TEN talking I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here?

Nobody will talk about the new Reality show supposedly under consideration for TEN. But everybody else is.

2014-08-24_0105ITV Studios declined to comment to TV Tonight last week on speculation it was in talks with TEN for a local version of I’m A Celebrity Get me Out of Here.

Now the Sunday Telegraph notes that TEN has declined to comment on the same rumour of the show as a potential candidate for 2015.

While the newspaper throws in some potential names (Shane Warne, Kyle Sandilands, Geoffrey Edelsten, Christopher Pyne, Margot Robbie), it’s merely a fantasy list.

TEN CEO Hamish McLennan is rumoured to be a fan of the series, which has enjoyed a whopping 14 seasons in the UK where it has been hosted by Ant & Dec and filmed on the Gold Coast.

The rumours on this format have been around for a while. ITV Studios Australia, under CEO Anita Jacoby, is understood to have been pushing for a local version for some time, including with Foxtel. If it proceeds TEN should try talking to Luke and Wyatt for their version.

With TEN in need of new Reality formats for 2015 following the failure of So You Think You Can Dance, the stars -albeit some of them B-listers- may have aligned.

TEN has also not confirmed it is planning Shark Tank for 2015.

  1. Ten are in a very precarious position at the moment. Thanks to last season of Masterchef and Offspring, Ten has managed to begin to dig its way out of the hole it dug itself with all those crappy programming decisions. This uninspiring, lowest-common-denominator drivel is not what they need right now.

  2. I imagine if they go ahead it will be known as “I’m the last remaining Ten network shareholder, get me out of this utterly predictable catasrophe!”

Hamish McClennan is a huge fan, says it all really.

  3. Am I the only one that feels there needs to be a point to a reality show? What is the point of this format?

Australian Idol, Young Talent Time, Shark Tank – all things I’d watch. This, no.

  4. Has turkey written all over it. Come on Ten, be original and pioneering like you used to be. Don’t give us tired old reality shows. What’s the next big thing?

  5. Margot Robbie ? Whoever threw her name into the mix is dreaming.
Also, no point having Kyle Sandilands… he’d leave with a migraine after a couple of days.

  6. A couple years ago I watched the UK one on GO! I thought it was funny and at the time I even thought to myself, why hasn’t any Aussie network picked this up?!

I think TEN should jump on this because it should do well, as it’s different to other programs on at the moment. At least it could fill the second half of the ratings year for them.

And I do agree with others take them overseas, maybe to Vietnam or Papua New Guinea or something.

  7. This could be a good idea. Although I love Ant & Dec, I do fear they aren’t as well known in Australia. Perhaps a duo like Hamish & Andy hosting????
Ten desperately need new content. The fact that they’ve possibly already in Non Ratings mode is a bit scary.

  8. Ant and Dec are the ideal hosts for the UK series which I have watched and find quite funny. They take the piss and have some fun at the expense of the “celebs”

Now you know which Aussie pair of blokes could a similar job over here………c’mon…… Hamish and Andy

  9. I wouldn’t mind a local version but don’t have Ant & Dec. No one knows who they are but more importantly they don’t know our celebrities, what they do, what they’re about etc etc.

  10. This has being discussed with various networks for about 8 years but the costs/logistics has always being an issue. I think it could do quite well but needs to have a decent mix of “celebs” the ability to vote ro make you favourite or hated celeb eat bush tucker or do some crazy challenge is kinda appealong

  11. While I do like that Ten are thinking of new shows, I don’t think they will have the success they want with IACGMOOH (weird acronym, now that I look at it). I just think that a show that casts regular people as opposed to celebrities would seam less gimmicky and have a wider appeal (then again it worked for ITV (? on channel) for 14 years, so who knows). If I were them I would go for Survivor or TAR (because 7’s screwed the show over by not putting it at 7:30 and hopefully a network with their heads screwed on right can pick up the rights).

  12. Good idea, we watch the UK version on GO, but the whole concept works because UK people are shocked by the conditions. Will this work without the shock element, I think not. Maybe we should look at sending Aussies somewhere else, same concept with Ant and Dec hosting.
