US actress Theresa Saldana, best known for The Commish and Raging Bull, has died aged 61.
Her death was reported by The Associated Press, which did not state a cause.
Saldana played Rachel Scali wife of small town police commissioner Tony Scali, played by Michael Chiklis on the US ’90s crime series The Commish from 1991 – 1996. She received a 1994 supporting actress Golden Globe nomination for her work.
Her career took a giant step forward when she was cast in Raging Bull as Lenore LaMotta, the sister-in-law of the boxer Jake LaMotta, played by Robert De Niro.
Other TV credits included All My Children, Law & Order, Cagney & Lacey, Falcon Crest, MacGyver and TJ Hooker.
Saldana also dedicated her life to helping assault victims after surviving a stalker attack in 1982. She founded the Victims for Victims organisation, and played herself in the TV movie Victims for Victims: The Theresa Saldana Story.
