Police manhunt, then Nine camo helps put out house fire.

It was an action packed Tuesday for Nine camera operator Lewis Hayes in Perth.

Nine News camera operator Lewis Hayes was forced to put down his camera to help put out a house fire in Yangebub yesterday, not long after a police pursuit for a person driving along Beeliar Drive had a gun pointed at them.

“Me and another camo saw the flames and thought ‘We have to put the cameras down and start fighting this fire and try and put it out,” Hayes told 6PR.

“We went around through the side gate, saw a little dog running around, so we were trying to get our hands on him and stop him from running around too much.

“I was running around trying to yell at anybody who was in the house.

“We grabbed hoses, trying to put it out. It turned out an officer eventually came with a proper fire extinguisher to aid us. He mentioned he saw some sort of lantern had tipped over and could have started the fire but I’m not percent sure.”

Thankfully, nobody was inside the house at the time.

The incident followed Lewis filming an earlier incident nearby when a driver had a gun pointed at them, sparking police choppers and a manhunt.

“It was pretty action packed day in Yangebub,” said Lewis.

Hayes is yet to learn if his news boss is possibly miffed about missing out on footage of the burning house.

“I’m hoping they’re not too sore about me putting the camera down and rushing to help,” he added.
