City Homicide cast

The Seven network has confirmed the cast for its new drama, City Homicide.

And it’s a great line-up too: Shane Bourne, Nadine Garner, Daniel McPherson, Aaron Pedersen, Noni Hazlehurst and Damien Richardson. Even Alyce Platt gets an acting gig! Their roles follow some cast changes since the pilot was shot last year.

The series is developed by writers from Blue Heelers and Water Rats and the first episode will be directed by Tony Tilse (Murder in the Outback, To Catch a Killer).

The series will be proudly Melbourne-made, embracing the city’s backdrop in ways we haven’t seen since cop shows like Good Guys, Bad Guys, Homicide, or Division 4. In fact the Seven publicity spin even draws upon some of its earlier cop shows including Cop Shop and even Skirts! Now there’s a throwback.

Press Release:

Channel Seven today announced filming will commence next week on the new Australian drama series City Homicide.

Shooting begins in Melbourne Monday April 16 on the fast paced police drama that explores the world of the homicide squad based in a large metropolitan city. It’s told through the eyes of four young detectives and their superiors.

City Homicide boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Shane Bourne stars as Detective Senior Sergeant Stanley Wolfe, and Noni Hazlehurst as Detective Superintendent Bernice Waverley. The four young and ambitious detectives are Nadine Garner as Jennifer Mapplethorpe, Damien Richardson as Matt Ryan, Aaron Pedersen as Duncan Freeman and Daniel MacPherson as Simon Joyner.

Also joining the cast are Marshall Napier and Alyce Platt, as Detective Senior Sergeant Wilton Sparkes and his wife Lorraine .

City Homicide is created by John Hugginson and John Banas, the writing team behind Australia’s most successful police based series Blue Heelers and Water Rats.

Executive Producer is Seven’s Head of Drama, John Holmes. The series will be produced by MaryAnne Carroll (All Saints). Directing the first episode is Tony Tilse (To Catch A Killer; All Saints).

John Holmes said today: “We have assembled a fantastic cast and crew, led by MaryAnne Carroll. With Shane Bourne and Noni Hazlehurst heading the cast, we can be sure of a dramatic commitment to delivering a series that will stimulate the audience.

“We have been fortunate enough to be able to spend a great deal of time getting the formula right. To see actors of this calibre now bringing the story to life is a thrill.”

Seven’s Director of Programming and Production, Tim Worner said: ”Channel Seven has always had successful police dramas in our primetime schedule – from Homicide to Cop Shop to Skirts to Blue Heelers.

“When it comes to Australian production, we are passionate and determined to continue the tradition.”

  1. Quite a while ago my niece was an extra in one of your episodes where she had to place a photo at a memorial site for a footballer who had been killed. The part was cut from the show but I was wondering if I could get a still copy of it as we are making a scrapbook for her. The scene was shot at the MCG and was shown not long after the Olympics. I love the show and was so pleased she got called as an extra and then asked to place the photo. A bit dissappointed when the scene was cut but thats show biz as they say. This was her very first taste the TV/movie life which she wants to pursue. Still love the show and look forward to seeing it every week. Thanks for your time, keep up the good work. Loraine

  2. Agree with “sillygostly” … not another CRIME drama … i hate them. Tripping over was excellent and a real crime that it didn’t continue, a total waste. I also loved that one with Sigrid Thornton and the faries in the bottom of the garden … never got past the pilot! Had enormous potential for an interesting and ground breaking series! Stupid programmers!!!
    Jack!

  3. Yep I’d say so, just as almost every Sydney show has the coat hanger shot lol.

We’ve previously had dramas that try to cloak their location into “generic Australian city” but City Homicide will make no bones about its residence. Expect trams, Flinders St Station, Fed Square, Docklands, St Kilda, blah blah. Hopefully a little sexier than shows of old!

  4. Ugh. I’m all up for Aussie drama, but does it HAVE to be another bloody crime show? We have at least 10 crime shows on Aussie primetime TV at the moment.

I’ve never watched a full episode of it, but Tripping Over showed a lot of promise. HOWEVER, the main reason why it got axed (IMO) is that Ten only ordered 6 episodes, and therefore the producers/writers needed to cram in an entire seasons worth of storylines in such a short space of time, leaving no time for characters to develop, or the plot to build up, ironically enough, resulting in its cancellation.

  5. Thank goodness for 7 for giving Aussie drama a go, this series sounds promising & with the fantastic Nadine Garner on board it’s sure to be a winner!
The networks need to invest more into Australian drama so our talented actors & writers have quality work to get their teeth in to!
