Stormy weather in Nine newsroom

More trouble in the Nine Newsroom with Sydney weather presenter Majella Wiemers reportedly storming out after being told her contract would not be renewed after December 31st.

Wiemers is replacing Jaynie Seal who is on maternity leave. According to the Daily Telegraph, News Director Ian Cook advised her to take Wednesday afternoon off after giving her the bad news. A colleague told the paper, News boss John Westacott “doesn’t like blondes.”

Westacott had also reportedly told Christine Spiteri with a surname like hers, “you should try SBS.”

Only yesterday sports commentator Stephanie Brantz was told she was no longer required.

On the back of the Jessica Rowe boning, Nine is showing exceeding inability to shake its blokey culture. Peppering its schedule with shows like Ralph TV and Girls of the Playboy Mansion this year certainly haven’t helped.

Meanwhile there are changes in Nine’s Brisbane newsroom too. Nine has lured former Channel Seven anchorman Frank Warrick out of retirement to read the weather next year. He will go head to head with former Nine weatherman John Schluter -now presenting on Seven.

Warrick’s acquisition demotes Joe May to the new Weekend Extra.

  1. I agree….all the changes are for the better. Especially J Rowe. UGH!!!

Not sure about the “gutless” line though….the above poster is wrong there…

  2. Brantz is staying, Rowe was a disaster and Weimers position is being filled by a woman coming back from maternity leave.

I fail to see a problem here.

And I would not believe any comments made by a “insider”. That is just code for gutless pen pusher.
